4age head swap Sat, 05 February 2005 10:33 Go to next message
I'm so confused
so far i have heard on these forums og guys putting 20V heads on 4agze's, or puttin 16V heads on 20V engines.
I want to improve power on a 4age, can I bolt on 20V head currently I run a big port with twin side draft carbs, no room to run efi.
Will it work?
is the main difference in a 20V in the head?

I wouldnt call myself an engineer but Id be guessing the difference in the head might have something to do with one bieng called a 20V and the other a 16V Rolling Eyes

Not nice
I can count 20V 16V
rthe blocks, the blocks will the 16v block accept the 20v head and give equivalent power to a 20V?
That's the question

there might be noticable power increase from the extra flow (debatable compared to a 16v bigport head) from useing the 20v head. the 20v engine also uses higher compression ratio to help give it it's extra power output over a 16v 4age.

interesting statement... exactly what do you base this on?

just curious because AFAIK the head is not the limiting factor in peak rpm on a 4AGE , its more to do with crank and stroke , now considering the stroke is still the same across the 4AGE range that leaves the crank. FA uses a 40mm main crank like a bigport and they generally rev @ 10000rpm or so.

ecu rev cut is not an indication of an engines ability to rev, although the manufacturer sets the rev limit based on peak torque and longevity of the engine.

generally a 20V will have the torque higher in the rev range but thats a factor of the flow of the head and cam profile not the ability to rev more.

so what evidence do you have to support the theory?

EDIT: forgot to add CR can be a factor too
