Did anyone catch the recent episode of rides on discovery? They did some airbrusing on an old ford hot rod.

Now im not normally an airbrushing fan, but damn that was some nice paint work, it wasn't just 'flames' down the side, this thing looked like it was actually on fire.

I guess it would want to, he paid something like $60k US for it.

Yeah, he was very talented. It look much better than the stupid crapy looking flames that other rods have. Most of the rods would look so much better without flames.

I caught the end of that show and saw the results. That was by far the best flame job I've ever seen on a car. It was awsome.
I'd give me left nut for that bloke to paint my car.

Cheers, Greg

a lot of the hot rod guys are purists
so they only count a hot rod as something that could have been made back in the day(50's, 60's/whatever)
thats why you see a lot of the hot rods with the basic sort of flames.
Cars that essentially have new tech(such as the hot rods with 1uz's etc) are classed as customs i beleive
pity i missed it

Well I didn't want to put a spoiler on my Celica because spoilers look stoopid on most street cars so I did the next best thing and got a Hamster with a spoiler.

Cheers, Greg.

60's !

Steady on there tech-head - no room for that modern crap around here.

HARDKORE Rodders run gear dating back to the 20's, although most of them have so little of the original gear/panels left that they're more accurately described as ultra-retro styled one-off cars. Classic customs, I s'pose you might call 'em.

-Not that I'm for or against any style O'Rod, GOT'sTA Respect that kind of commitment to a car, cos MAN have I seen some sweet rides at shows with a lazy few thousand hours invested in them.

Pay-TV rules for Documentarys b.t.w. - Every time I visit the parents, I spend most of my time leapfrogging from one doco to the next around the pay-TV. Sweet sweet pay . . . .

I didn't see the flame one but I was watching rides the other day and personally I was not all that impressed with their hot rods. For sure they look pretty good when they are finished but they all looked so damn similar it wasn't funny.

Yes I know each to their own etc. But I really couldn't be stuffed chopping the roof off and lowering it 3" to have it look just like another dude's car who just did the same thing.

That's some pretty mind-blowing stuff. Incredible depth and 3D look to those flames - especially the blue ones in the 4th set with the water droplet look.

Hi,

The best flame job I ever saw was when I was a wee lad and me and a mate were in his old Kombi van going up the hills between Gymea and Miranda along President Avenue. All these cars kept passing us and honking. We were a little bit blithered at the time and just waved to them, not knowing WTF they waving at uas for, until we smelt smoke.

The kombi stopped halfway up the hill and caught fire. We got our surfboards and herbs outta the car and sat by the roadside and watched it burn to the ground.

The firebrigade turned up and gave it a good soaking but the poor old kombi was cactus. We ended up getting horribly pissed at Gymea Pub and hitched back home.
