Insurance what is everyone paying mr2, celica, everything? Mon, 14 February 2005 07:09 Go to next message
Hi

I am thinking of selling my ra23 and saving up for something a bit newer because my car is too distracting with uni etc.

The cars i am thinking of are.

AW11 MR2 NA or SC
SW20 MR2 NA
ST162.

I have been enquiring about insurance about the cars and I have fouind that most cars would not insure me if i wanted a MR2 SC.

the best quotes i have gotten

AW11 MR2 SC - $2050 with $1700 excess and $800 excess if stolen (Just cars)
AW11 MR2 NA - $580 with 350 excess or 457 with 1050 excess
SW20 MR2 NA - $619 with 350 excess or 457 with 1050 excess
ST162 Celica SX - $457 with 350 excess or 341 with 1050 excess

these prices are going through my father with me listed as a driver with 350 excess or 1050 with me not listed as a driver but still covered but with an extra 700 excess.

the first one is through just cars and i had to stop myself laughing at him as he read it too me.

I guess i just may not be able to get a SC Mr2 that i dearly want unless i bend over or you guys have better susgestions of where to try.

I am 22 no acident history however i have lost my licence once which screws everything else.

So whats everyone else paying?

Daniel

Full comprehensive on the ST185 costs me $1540
$600 standard excess, $300 vehicle excess, $300 age excess, $300 theft excess. (i.e. $1200 excess)

Thats with:
Max NCB
NCB Protection
No accident history
No license suspensions
24 Years old
Me as the only listed driver
Car registered and parked in LUG in metro NSW.

That was the best deal I could find in Jan when I renewed my insurance.

SW20 N/A $1800 comp. Shannons, cheapest I've found for me. 22, M, Green P's(bad bit). 40% NCB for some crazy reason as I've never insured anything else in my life.

Same here,

SW20 N/A, $1800 fully comprehensive.

I am with Young and Cool, and have a 40% noclaims because I have been on my fathers insurance plan for the last three years without a claim.

I am 20 year old male and on green P's (I really don't want to give the rta 94 of my hard earned dollars just yet, so the ps stay until just before my license expires)

However until I do a defensive driving course, my excess is $2k, after that, $1k. I will be doing this course shortly Very Happy

Just Cars. $834 per year plus excess full comprehensive.

My GA61 with 1GGTE conversion, wheels, brakes, diff and whatever mod I wanted provided it was legal. That's no problem as all my mods will be engineered.

Would only insure for $7k which was a downer, but that was me as the sole driver, 21yo, 55% NCB, no accidents or speeding fines, with my 21yo g/f as the second driver.

If anyone is interested.

96 Tercel, $1200au with $650au excess. Car is market valued as well (starting price was $6,000nz). This is with two years NCB and a insurance brocker. So basicly after six years I would have paid off the car! If the excess wasnt so high, id be tempted to leave it somewhere Laughing

83 FXGT Corolla, $850au with $450au excess. It was only a $1700nz car!

Im 21, no claims, crashs, or tickets. Five years insurance history. Im on the the NZ type of Green Ps.

Edit: They tell me I cant modify the car, but there policy runs out in two months and i already have a few things lined up for her Smile

I think that you should NOT compare with different states, sometimes even the suburb can make a difference in the premium.

for example. my VT acclaim (I know its a Holden but its my family car Embarassed ) costs me $1200 cause I live in Greenacre, but if I change the postcode on the internet quote to Kogarah Bay. the premium is $800. and if I change to Melbourne its $600 and thats in the city.

summary: I think you should only compare with the state that you live in, we all know Sydney Insurance prices are rediculous.

it's a 1ggte SA63 celica.
I've been charged with dangerous driving once before and have lost my licence for a year once.

EDIT: 3rd party fire and theft with just cars

thanks guys/girls

its good to see all the different prices people are paying and it doesnt make me feel too bad about the first quotes i got at all.

for those that asked the bottom three are from teachers credit union Queensland and are pretty much the best arround (if you are a teacher maybe they insure others i dont know).

BUT!

I have gotten a new quote

AW11 mr2 $1154 full comp with 1600 excess
AW11 mr2 SC $1154 full comp with 1700 excess
SW20 mr2 NA $1154 full comp with 1600 excess ( all excess goes down 500 in 6 months as i will have not lost my licence for 3 years)

pretty good huh the SC is back up there now!

Pays to ring arround, make them work for your business and be extreemly nice and polite and you seem to get better quotes Smile.

Daniel.
