Smokey off idle

Hi all,
Just before I delve too far into some work laid out for me by my car i just want to confirm I have things right.
A bit white/blueish cloud of smoke from the exhaust off idle indicates what exactly? It's OK just driving around, but say taking off from the lights, it seems to smoke. It may have smoked on boost too, but I don't really look behind me at that point
Could it be the turbo oil seals? Head gasket?
Just need to make sure i'm going the right way with all this...

running rich my friend.
if you can get it on a dyno and try clean up the airfuel ratios by dicking around with the fuel pressure timing or a/f meter...
all them things can afect the a/f ratios.
hell for some reason my car was running like absolute shit until I got the a/f meter played with a bit.

Valve stem seals maybe?.
I have a similar problem in my Cressida. Sit at the lights for more than 30 seconds and a big puff of smoke comes out the back on take off. I put new seals on the exhaust side last week which has mostly fixed the problem but I still need to change the intake side still.

Hmmm maybe I should just find a replacement head + turbos

Puff @ idle take off is valvestem seals.
The longer you idle for, the worse it is?
Turbo seals = puff under boost (but could also be rings)

if it is smoking when you re-apply the throttle after long periods of high vacuum, ie. idling or going down a big hill, then its your valve stem seals.
if it smokes pretty much all the time or when under load then its probably your rings.
it could also be both...

We're talking enough smoke to hide my car and blind drivers for a few seconds as they drive through it. It seems to happen after idling or similar... I just jumped the gun a bit with the turbo's I guess
Anyone know a good workshop to get head work done in Adelaide?
And anyone know how to get those damn turbos off... the heatshields behind the turbo (against the block) are real bitches!

rings. my pajero does this exact same thing. lots of smoke after idling for a while and a little bit under load, lost compression/throttle response.

A compression test will soon tell you if it's rings.

The rings should be fine... when the engine was in bits foursnmore took a look at the rings, they were in good condition.
I'm going to try a compression test anyway.
