1JZ chewing oil,. please help

Hi all,
A friend of mine recently purchased a MX83 with the JZX81 conversion and despite having a few issues with suspension, he is pretty happy with it
Although he now has another problem, it seems the 1J is going through about 1-2 litres of oil per week,
The car drives well, and is very smooth, with no strange noises, no temp problems, and holds water well, doesn't seem to be dropping oil
Don't know what it could be,
Any suggestions??
Cheers

That much oil has to be going somewhere
Check for oil smoke from the exhaust for a start if there are NO oil leaks.

Yeah, I have watched him drive away, and not seen any smoke, a little puff of black smoke from 1st to 2nd,. thats it..
Just spoke with him, and it isn't as drastic as first thought, it took 2 litres after 3 weeks of driving,..
Could the Turbo's require replacing/rebuilding?

If there is no leaks you should definitely see white smoke coming out the exhaust at sometime!

white?
blue?
and leaks can sometimes be very sneaky - if it's leaking onto a belt, there may be no leaks under the car, but one side of your engine could be soaked in oil
just remember, it must be either leaking, burning, or ending up in your radiator.

I suspect burning
But I don't see tons of smoke, just a puff on gear change, and that is black,..
And he isn't constantly washing the back of the car,.. it stays quite clean
Just wondering, possibly Turbo's??

The black is unburnt fuel.
Maybe the 1J has been converted to two stroke????? If this is the case he will need the extra oil, usually at a rate of 50:1 for the twin turbo version, 100:1 for the vvti single turbo cause it is newer and more better.

Turbos = white/blue smoke on throttle
Valve stem seals = propbably impossible to chew that amount in that time
Rings = white/blue smoke most of the time
