water pump? st162 Sat, 19 February 2005 09:25 Go to next message
Hi, i have just driven my st162 celica with the 3sfe, and it seems to have overheated, a small amount of coolant has leaked from under the motor, and i heard a knocking sort of noise coming from around the timing chain cover (where the belt goes to the alternator). I believe it maybe the water pump, but if you have any idea please let me know...

Well.. There's no CHAIN, but a timing belt. And the best way to see if the pump is stuffed is to removed said cover, and have a look at it Surprised

use a screwdriver and try and figure out where the noise is coming from when the car's running

ie long screwdriver, one end touching ear, pointy end touching part of engine that's sus. Be careful of moving parts and clothing etc etc rah rah

thanks for the replies, i am pretty sure it is the water pump (bearing) and have limped it to my mechanic, hopefully it wont cost too much too fix. I am at the point of not knowing whether to pour money into the car (i.e. full suspensive, new motor-gbox, spray), or give up and buy another car. Test driving a gt4 tommorrow night, which should be interesting.... Shocked
