Bumper Canards!!! Mon, 21 February 2005 06:04 Go to next message
Hi,

Well, well.... looky here...

http://www.everythingcelica.com/catalog/images/kit_aprcanards6_big.jpg

http://www.everythingcelica.com/catalog/images/kit_aprcanards5_big.jpg

The product is at http://www.everythingcelica.com/catalog/product_in fo.php?cPath=48&products_id=190

I love the part on the site that says "Attach to your front bumper in the exact angle and position that you desire."

Obviously highly technical. Rolling Eyes

I highly doubt that it is only Australia with those kind of laws. The yanks had it worse with their bumper laws, we got it easy in comparison.

Think about it though... Those things would act like knives if you hit or even clipped a pedestrian. The result wouldn't be pretty. Confused

i don't even think a nice smooth bumper would tickle either.
Japan seems to have it easy with their road laws.

can't you see the pictures at the top of the thread?
the canards are the flat planes attached to the bumper, hence "bumper canards"
fitted to increase downforce i suppose. complete wank factor on a road car.
as are all forms of wings imo (unless your "road car" has a midship twin turbo v10 and a six figure price tag.)

Properly designed and placed canards are fairly effective, but they're just rice - and a waste of carbon-fibre imho.

they would probably work at over 150km/hr to give a bit more front stability...

ont he road, they'd be awesoem "shin-cutters" and would go well with your "cat-cutter"... reminds me of carmageddon Evil or Very Mad

They are actually banned to protect dumb arse ricers from looking any more ridiculous than they have to!

Those things just look dangerous, and the are rightfully banned, anything which is likely to increase the injuries sustained by a pedestrian in a collision should be banned.

I could be wrong but are canards really to provide downforce? I thought the purpose of them was to keep air flowing nicely so that spoilers can do the trick. In the case of front bumber canards this would be to direct airflow away from the wheels preventing turbulant air being passed to the rear spoiler.

Also surely if they were going to provide enough down force to be effective then simply screwing them to the panels would simply bend the panel unless there is some sort of structual modification made on the inside.

Either way highly unlikely to be effective unless fitted in an air tunnel.

These things are actually called dive panes and their original purpose was to reduce the pitch sensativity of prototype sports cars. Their use as downforce would be measurable but they would be accompanied by a significant drag penalty. Give me a well designed undertray anyday.

Oh and River, I think they would look great on the 25 Razz Did you end up buying a set??

Hi,

Oh yeah baby! I bought 10 sets!

I've requested hardened alloy razor sharp edges on the leading edge 'cos a clean sever does much less damage to a pedastrian than the traditional blunt edge. And, much easier to stitch up the limbs. I consider myself a compassionate fellow and try to minimise trauma to those I hit and run over.

Also, I'm putting them down the centre line of the car - over the bonnet, across the roof, and along the tail gate to give it the reptillian stegasaurus look. I better talk to Puzzleman to see how I can get some neons attached to these babies.

Mind you, they'll have to be attached real well 'cos i don't want the sheer, brutal power of the mighty 18RG to rip them off on acceleration. Laughing
