ta22 T50 gearbox on 4age? Sat, 26 February 2005 02:09 Go to next message
Hi

im still prepearing for my 4age mod into my ta22.

i already gotten a lot of good help here, so i will crank up a new question.

i have read that there are two types of t50 boxes, 20 and 22 splines, mine is the old type, 20 splines.

i have been thinking about using this, since i already know about a corolla ae86/sprinter bellhousing i can use, but im not sure anymore since i read a lot of negative stuff about this box.

some say after changing the bellhousing it will leak oil, other says you have to remove some stuff in there to make the bellhuosing fit and after that it will be hard to shift gears.

is this true? should i forget about my old 20 splines? or is it possible to make them work good after changing the bellhousing?

im not worried about blowing the box, since i dont drive that hard.

thanks for your help Very Happy

The TA22 / T18 T50 box looks the same as A series T box, but its not.

The output shaft on some TA boxes is different, and all TA / T18 boxes are different internally to A box, with different shape main shaft and less number of bearings throughout.

I would say the TA box would not be as strong as A box

From what I have read you will suffer from oil leaks from the gearbox front seal. You would probably be better off using an AE86/71 T50 instead.

Also the spline difference refers to output shafts.
