Can anyone shed some light on the diferences between the ca 18 de and the det apart from the fucking obvious. I have been given a de in good nick and was thinking about droping it in my sprinter with future plans for a blower if the de will take it.Also can any one give me contact details for Anthony Kellam re. engine mounts.
thanx.

main differences are DE's dont have the oil squirters and they are hi compression. so i guess you could get some DET pistons and slap them in and supercharge it. just wont get as much out of it as you would a DET but then again for the price it nay not be so bad.
de's also have smaller injectors.

A friend of mine has turboed the NA variant, using old T3. Seems to be performing O.K with an 11.7sec at last Wed WSID.

turboing or supercharging a ca18de is actual a not bad idea.
the compression is higher than the turbo motor but it will survive if the tune is good.
the easiest way would be to buy a ca18det manifold and turbo, complete with water and oil lines and then remap/dyno tune the ecu.

Awsome info guys . Can you explain that last sentence yellorolla .I've had a hardon for superchargers for a while now but I think a higher compresion turbo setup would give some low down grunt and be a lot easier and cheaper to set up in this case. How do s/c's take to higher comp aplications.
thanx again folks

go the turbo route man
much easier
ca18det manifold bolts straight on and your not entering uncharted water.
turboing the n/a motor makes for a torquey and responsive drive

Is the std det turbo a good match for this aplication ,are the de injectors up to the job and is it necesary to have the det ecu to run this thing. I'm not after outright grunt , just a beefy low to mid with some revability.
thanx again

dont think the det ecu will plug into the de loom
besides it wont run that well anyway since ur motor has different compression.
just get a rom tune on the de ecu
ca t25 turbo is known to fail
i'd get a rb20 turbo ( requires some fucking around)
or any sr turbo u can get your hands on

I think you better check the wiring diagrams , the injector wiring is different the det has a injector resistor from memory ? I think someone on here had this problem before . Might be easier to just start with a det loom , since nissan loom change alot between models .
