ae86? Wed, 02 March 2005 05:10 Go to next message
hey guys im new here and just want to ask for some advice.

Im 18 on my green p's and want to buy a car badly. I will have around 4-5 grand.
Things i want in car are: rwd, smallish(prefer 2 door),relativley fuel efficeint(not too important)...i care more about handling than engine power. and dont give a shit what it looks like..ae86 came up as a good choice but im wondering if anyone can suggest some other cars that would be suitable for me.I like hilly driving ,dont like drift, but still want a daily.
And also just wondering what is the stock engine that comes with the 86(is it 4age?) becasue many people have told me conflicting stories. Sorry if this is a much-asked question but i searched and couldnt find much info. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Stock australian ae86 has a 4a-c engine, single cam carby 1.6ltre but with your budget you should be able to get one with a 4age no problems

AE86 is the way you should go. Once you own a hatchi you'll never want anything else, I've owned over 20 cars and I always seem to come back to an ae86. But thats just my opinion.

Aus spec AE86 = 4ac single cam, carby
Jap spec AE86 = 4age twin cam, 16v, efi

Hope that helps.

Get something else.
AE86 require patience and dedication.
AE86 = bring on the headaches.

good to see that you're making a decision based upon what you want out of a car, not just, "hey that guy has one and he's cool i want one too"

from what you're after i'd say that an AE86 would be a good choice. i've always been interested in one for similar reasons.

Bit out of his price range ... that said, I reckon the MX5 has more potential than an AE86 if you can stretch your $$$ ...

@evan..yeah i looked into mx5 a while ago and fouund cheapest models to be aorund 7-10k mark with occasional one for 5g but totally thrashed to bits like often not in running order etc...

So most ppl think 86 which is pleasing cause its wot i had in mind. Is there any other suitable options at all though? like u may not think they are quite as good as 86 but id still like to know wot else is available, cheers

there is the mitsubishi starion but that would be a pain in the ass to get parts for
theyre not 2 door but you could try the r31 skyline or ae71 with a decent engine conversion
just research around there are decent cars out there but if your like me youll always come back to wanting an ae86 Razz

I owned an ra40 celica coupe for two years, It looked good enough, had an 18rg, two bucket seats, and suspension. I only paid $2500 and did plenty of non-drift early morning mountain runs. The only problem, being a 25 year old car it is prone to rust, not unlike ae86s

RA65 Celica....

They are the bomb. Relatively cheap. really torquey engines (2.4L Fuel Injected 4cyl) so that will be good for hilly driving. spacious, air con, heater etc.

RA65's are great check them out.

ta22 is a good bet mate, cram a 2TG/13T hybrid in it, some upgrades like shockers and springs and your set...

Cheers,
