hey guys, does any1 know if the 8860 uses a standard serial cable with both ends being female, im trying to verify that it is getting power and has the correct settings before doin a complete install. The cable i have used is a standard serial cable with a gender changer at one end, if the cable required is different can any1 supply me with a wiring diagram, i dont wanna fork out $30 for just a cable worth $2.

No its not just a standard cable. It's only two pins i think.
youll need to buy one from ems.

I think Celica_John means that two wires / pins are crossed.
It is possible possible but unlikely that only two wires are used to connect the EMS to the computer.
It is possible for serial communcation to use only two wires (signal and signal ground)... e.g. USB which has only power, power ground, signal and signal ground but I think the computer would shit itself if it had to communicate via the serial port in this manner... this could be corrected by software but then this would be a lot of work to save using a few extra wires.

im pretty sure i used a normal cable for programing a stinger

Yeh, we had some trouble with new laptops connecting to a motec... we had to get a usb adaptor for the serial cable to connect. It was something about the serial ports on the laptop not being wired for output? Worked fine with the dinosaur laptops.
