I'd say, it was staged for effect.
slowing the clip down then pausing it at the time of the shot the gun is pointed out to the front of him and to the ground.
plus the 2 people standing to the right of him don't react at all the female only walks over to the blackboard then back to the side.
might be good just to show the kids that accidents can happen.
