bush/rally hack cars Mon, 14 March 2005 11:28 Go to next message
I was thinking of buying like a ke55 corolla or something similar to just strip out and hack around the bush.

Has anyone got any comments or suggestions about good cars for rally thrashing?

Something that wont die easily, is cheap, and rwd?

Share your stories/advice here.

thanks

i usded a 120y as it's light and doesn't get much damage when rolled.
it also didn't mind a few jumps aswell

yeah, one of those 1979 shape coronas wouldnt be too bad.
A later model one with a 22re and 5sp would rule but they're still pretty expensive.

I was just planning on welding the diff and stripping all of the interior out.

Me and my mate used to paddock bash 2 KE30's, they were absolutely bullet proof.
If u can get a second hand-brake lever and cable you can hook up a dual hand brake system, one for each rear wheel.
It works great for tight turns but if you weld the diff then it obviously wont work

cheers

T18 are a good option also cause they have a resonably torquey motor and tought drivetrain.

a good place to get cheap cars is look in the tradingpost and find the car removal companies. just tell them next time they get a good complete car tell them u will give them 50 bux for it. they are only gonna get a bit of scrap metal out of them anyway.

We live on acerage and are regularly buying thrash cars. We bought a datto pulsar for 80's, took a hell of a thrashing but now is almost dead. My thrash car is a 76 Chrysler Lancer, it has been going strong for almost 4 years of thrashing. Also had a KE55 that got a beating and my spare parts celica aswell.

The Corolla wagons seem to be really good at sliding around corners and are damn easy to control, must be all that extra weight in the back!

Look in the trado and talk all the $200 cars down to $100, they almost always go for it.

Yeah i had one of those Chrysler Lancer things awile ago(3 years) as a hacker, i think it was 78' but.
Took a good thrashing and was mega-light after we stipped it down.
