Canceled - Group Buy : Remote oil filter, oil cooler kits. Tue, 15 March 2005 05:34 Go to next message
Hello, I just wanted to get an expression of interest on organising a group buy for some Perma-cool remote oil filter & cooler products.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the company (summit) about discounts for multiple purchases.

I'd like to have the order done by lets say 2 weeks. That would give everyone a time to get in on the group buy and come up with the money etc. So around the end of this month.

I worked out some prices all in Australian Dollars but not including postage.

All the product info/discriptions can be viewed at http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Contents.html
----------------------
P/N 10195 - Universal Engine Oil Cooler Kits with Remote Filter kit
250HP cooler - $146.15
450HP cooler - $195.69
----------------------
P/N 10695 - Universal Remote Oil Filter Kit - $55.13
----------------------
P/N 1060 - External Thermostat - $50.53
P/N 1161 - External Thermostat mount - $21.51
----------------------
P/N 101 - 250HP oil cooler only - $73.96
P/N 401 - 450HP oil cooler only - $95.88
----------------------
P/N 201 - 450HP competition oil cooler - $126.51
----------------------
P/N 203 - 100 to 300HP competition alloy oil cooler - $150.70
P/N 303 - 300 to 450HP competition alloy oil cooler - $215.24
----------------------

I am hoping if this turns into a group buy we could get some discounts (currently talking to distributor about this). Also the postage costs would be mimimal if its split up.

So yeah.. Let me know if you are interested and i'll keep you posted on what kind of discounts we can get and postage costs etc.

Cheers
Joel

Hm, so the thermostat is inside the sandwich plate? Is it possible to get ones with the thermostat externally but inline.
Is that $148 US or AU.

Interested though.

The $78 thermostat mentioned is an external one. This baby here - http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page14.html

Those prices are Australian. But as mentioned haven't added in postage or import taxes (if any).

Aye, now i understand. Teach me to type faster than i can read. The pic mainly confused me as it has a sandwich plate for the block. But i have billet gear for the rest. Any idea on how much it would cost just for the cooler and the thermo?

EDIT: Doesnt really matter at that price, i can flog off the rest. The thermo may not be needed either. But im definately down.
Do we get the little permacool fluffy things too?

Simon here is a bit of info -

Oil cooler - Serpentine tube and fin coils feature our thermally cured, aerospace epoxy constructed 1/2" or 5/8" aluminum tubes with TurbulatorTM fins (except as noted) and aluminum heat extracting coil fins. Engine oil cooler coils are rated by horsepower and oil flow. All coils are 100% pressure tested to 300 p.s.i.

Four pass cooler flows 3-10 GPM through 5/8" tubes with TurbulatorTM fins and 1/2" multi-barbed fittings.
Coil size: 1-1/2" x 7" x 14"

Takai the thermo Aus purchase price is $74 (not including postage etc as mentioned before). Also that isn't including any possible discounts if we order multiple ones. I'll have to get more definate figures once I see how much interest there is.

The 250hp cooler like in that picture is $83 AUS (not including postage etc or group buy discounts).

My understanding is we can get the adapters to fit pretty much any car.

- Universal Engine Oil Cooler Kits fit engines with the following spin-on filter thread sizes: 3/4"-16, 13/16"-16, 1"-12, M18 x 1.5, M20 x 1.5 and M22 x 1.5.

This is the kit I have in my car, works very well and is fully adaptable to almost any housing and thread type.

Joel i might be up for a thermostat housing.. let me know if the GB goes ahead please.

Ill also add it makes changing the filter a mess less ease Smile

Without oil cooler so just the adpater for engine and for oil filter and pipes would be around $64 (not including group buy discounts or postage).

To me it looks like the adapter plate has hose tail/barb fittings that you can remove and replace with different size ones.

Maybe 1ra11y can confirm this as he has one?

yes comes with all neccesary fittings including barbed ends for the hose, a length of hose, various thread adapters to suit pretty much any thread you can imagine, a bigger plate for fitting against the block if neccesary and even came with hose clamps and bolts to mount into the metal if you want as well. Oh and dont forget the 10Kw of sticker power too Smile

Cool well looks like there is plenty of interest!

I'll get some firm prices for the remote oil filter kit, and the remote oil filter kit with cooler, and also for the external thermostat for those who want.

The prices seem quite good, but maybe if we order 10 or so we could get a bit knocked off.

But anyhow even with no discount the postage should be affordable between a few of us.

Cheers

well there is such a thing as have oil temps too low, and when you are cruising the freeway at 110-100kmh putting minimal load on your engine they will drop to below optimal temp.

Yes, same theory as a thermostat for your coolant. closes off under a certain temp, opens when above a certain temp.

And its not a matter of it WILL drop below temp on freeway, but it CAN.

It most certainly does, it acts like a thermostat in the normal cooling system of a car by only opening when the oil is getting hotter too keep it at optimal temperature

So what is the consensus on the thermo?

It seems that a couple of engine builders i have spoken to say its not necesary but then som people do!

Still to decide on the thermostat.

Is it really detramental to run the engine too cool on the freeway or the like?

I am going to run a thermostat in mine. Mainly because the factory 3s-gte uses one.

Here is a bit of info on the thermostat :

Automatically regulates oil temperature
Provides quicker warm-ups to operating temperatures
Prevents over-cooling in cold climates
For use with transmission coolers and engine coolers
Maintaining proper oil temperature is critical in today's sophisticated engines and automatic transmissions. Installation of an auxillary oil cooler helps keep the oil below the 200°F maximum temperature. However, installation of a remote oil thermostat, in addition to an oil cooler, will help warm the oil up to operating temperatures faster. That is a plus at start-up or on cold days when the oil is thick and takes longer to get into the oil galleys.

When oil temperature exceeds 180°F the thermostatic valve closes, allowing 95% flow through the oil cooler. At temperatures below 180°F the valve is open, with 90% of the oil bypassing the cooler. The remaining 10% of the oil flows through the cooler, maintaining constant system pressure, preventing air pockets and eliminating cold oil shock. Flows up to 20 gallons per minute (GPM). Rated to 200 p.s.i. Thermostat mounting kits containing four brass fittings, four stainless steel hose clamps and two nylon tie mounts are sold separately.

Yeah the plan would be to have it all shiped to Syd and then from there we can work out how to get it to everyone. Like if there is a few people in SA maybe it can go in 1 box down there and then distributed.

I'm trying to get some information from customs on import taxes etc. Having trouble finding what i'm after. Appears GST has to be paid on the total price including freight price.

Anyone had any experience with bringing stuff in from US?

Thanks
Joel

We will have issues if it is over AU$1000 all up including postage. If that is the case we should get the order split into two halves. There seems to be quite a few interested down here in SA, so if we could we could get a lot sent here direct.

There is this thread on importing stuff from the US: http://pforums.company-hosting.com/forums/showthre ad.php?t=67187387
Ive brought over a fair bit of stuff from T3 across the times, but not at all at once.
