question about wheel sizes. Wed, 16 March 2005 08:12 Go to next message
I dont know that much about wheels, but could you tell me what some of the following mean?

i know that 15x5 would obviously be 15" wheels that are 5" wide, but im seeing stuff like. "5 x 114.3" etc. and im unsure what all that means. Anyways, im looking for a set of rims for my 91 seca SX, either 15 or 16"... what am i to be looking for?

normally it goes something like R15 185 65, which is the size Diameter of wheel in inches, then the width in centimeters, then the tyre height, or thickness. The small this last number the lower the profile of the tyre and the more it costs:)
Try and get one size up and one width out from your current wheels or you are in for trouble with your insurance agent, and maybe vicroads. If you do get big ass wheels make sure to let your insurance company know, or they will viod your policy real fast.

He's talking about wheels, not tyres.

5x114.3 is the PCD, or Pitch Circle Diameter. Draw a circle joining the centre point of each of the wheel studs and that's the PCD, which for most RWD Toyota's is 4.5 inches or 114.3mm. If there are 5 wheel studs it's referred to as 5x114.3. This is the first thing to look at when buying wheels, if you get the wrong PCD you can't bolt them up to your hubs!

For a 91 Seca you'll need 4x100 wheels.

offset is 38 for the corolla, make sure you get the correct offset or you'll have scrubbing against the strut.
