There's plenty of Aussie hip hop talent. MattyB ,Sleeping Monk, The Herd, etc etc. Stop watching TV and get out to actually see people perform. Unless you are happy having your head filled with American shit that is.
Scribe's a bloody Kiwi anyways.
PS Mundine is not good at all, it's shit.

The worst thing that ever happened to hip hop was getting commercially exploited. Aussie Hip Hop sounds as much like Yank Hip Hop as much as any other music genre sounds like Yank stuff.
I mean, nearly all of the 'Aussie music' artists were heavily influenced by overseas acts.
Still , there is something soothing about wallowing in ones convictions. 'Cheap Wine and three day growth. . . C'mon?'
Go the Barnesy eh mate?
Lots of people seem to know what is not 'Aussie' but who's gunna jump up and define 'Aussie' music?

This is the only real problem I have with Australian Hip-Hop.. It isn't gangsta, we don't live in a society which is anywhere near as racially oppressive or suffering from such levels of poverty. Chances are you aren't living in a "ghetto" so to say, Australia is completely and utterly different from America so for Australian Hip-Hop to be taken seriously and given the respect it deserves people have to stop trying to immitate America. Unless you are an African-American male who was born in a "bad" area back in the states and now resides in Australia... stop trying to act like it because this isn't the ghetto, whitey is not constantly putting you down, you don't have to sell crack so you can buy smokes for your babies momma from wallmart, and your homies won't cop a drive by for not wearing the right colours in another crew's territory.

first of all-hiphop is the culture/lifestyle,rap is just one element of it
secondly-joel"i'veruinedaussiebeatboxing" ;turner is a clown and an average boxer at most.
question:what reputable aussie hiphop group is trying to be black or gangsta?name one.any that do try are laughed at by the hiphop community
question to nolan:who the fuck made u king of hiphop or music for that matter?quote:if ur aussie u cant be a hip hop artist, rapping about gum trees and koalas just isnt cool to any1 but aussies so ur never going to make a name for urself, end quote-nolan.
thats the thing about hiphop, just like any other music.its for everyone.its in almost evry country these days.just coz it mostly
came out of the states does not mean we cant be part of it.
who the fuck raps about koala's and trees, sure u might of heard it mentioned once or twice in a song or the herd might have brought out a song about saving the forest or something, but seriously, what tthe fuck?
one last question:did u ever consider that some of these artists arent interested in making a name for themselves outside oz or into the mainstream.
dont talk shit about something u know nothing about.
-------------------------------------------------- --
most of the time i find the ppl that bag it out know nothing about hiphop or music in general.they should get out and see some real underground hiphop, they may be surprised.but then again it aint for everyone.
--------------------------------------
this was written by someone who was brought up on rock and metal music.i dont wear baggy clothes or my hat sideways,i dont use the rediculous lingo or a fake accent or walk with a limp.i love music and give credit where credits due.
there is dickheads in every scene, even the car scene
oz hiphop is not everyones cup of tea
some of it is shit but some of it is extremely good
some ppl should try and be a bit more open minded
did u know that australians invented the sampler?
to all the people that hate it,whats your idea of good music?

Its funny COZ ITS TRUE!!!! The closest thing Australia has to a ghetto is Redfern. And even then its only like 2or3 blocks.
Its not cool cause its fake. They grow up listening to American artists whilst living in their white picket fence version of suburbia then start wearing fubu and hang around parramatta station with other friends who also listen to the same music and wear the same clothes.. then they run into people who they dont like... and because theyre minds are affected by the mentality of the music they think they need to protect turf and start gangs and knife wars and and play basketball with no shirts on like the ever entertaining movie white men cant jump... and then whats there left to do? ohh start a rap group and go on x-factor and sing about life in the hood.

And while were on the subject. Why is it that dodge rappers are the ones getting the respect? Drug dealers with nothing to talk about but their egos.
Why cant I hear something that's a little bit 'bigger' theme wise then hoes and turf wars..
"Yeah, neva forget that tha wip snapped ya back
Ya spine cracked for tobacco, oh I'm the Marlboro man, uh
Our past blastin' on through the verses
Brigades of taxi cabs rollin' Broadway like hearses
Troops strippin' zoots, shots of red mist,
Sailors blood on tha deck, come sista resist
From tha era of terror check this photo lens,
Now tha city of angels does the ethnic cleanse
Uh, heads bobbin' to tha funk out ya speaker, on tha one Maya, Mexica
That vulture came to try and steal ya name
But now you found a gun, you're history, this is for the people of the sun"
"Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
No shelter if you're lookin' for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
A Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The camera's eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
Yes a spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins and stole your eyes
Or the fistagons
The bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord"
"I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You were mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before ya realise
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high"
Best. "Rapper". ever.

thats kind of whats annoying, people(and this aint directed at u bathurst-91) live they're sheltered lives get an idea in their head about what something is like,in this case hiphop, say from eight mile, idol, video hits, movies etc, they might pass some little wigger wannabe thug on the street or they might have seen the same little wigger wannabe thug and his 'crew' rioting at macquarie fields and decide 'these are the little cunts who listen to that hiphop rubbish' and just paint us all with the one brush"that we're all like that",when infact its nothing like they're perception.

Its not cool cause its fake. They grow up listening to American artists whilst living in their white picket fence version of suburbia then start wearing fubu and hang around parramatta station with other friends who also listen to the same music and wear the same clothes.. then they run into people who they dont like... and because theyre minds are affected by the mentality of the music they think they need to protect turf and start gangs and knife wars and and play basketball with no shirts on like the ever entertaining movie white men cant jump... and then whats there left to do? ohh start a rap group and go on x-factor and sing about life in the hood.

here is some stuff to consider
*most of these wiggers dont even listen to australian hiphop cause its not 'gangsta' or whatever
*most of them know nothing about hiphop.they just like what they see on MTV or video hits, shit like 50 cent, eminem, tupac etc and try and emulate it,and most of that shit is rubbish(not to mention RAP)
* most of these guys have never heard of people with real credibility and real talent and are just interested in being thugs
*hiphop didnt start out as being all about ,bitch's ,hoes, gangsta's etc.thats just what the majority of the public are interested in(sadly)(but keep in mind most of this 'public' are young kids who dont have much idea)and have been bombarded with this shit by mtv etc.and the majority of hiphop is still not about that, thats just what the average joe sees.
*truth be told the hiphop(american and aussie) i and all other genuine fans are into is clever, quick witted, funny, political, has meaning and most importantly is a good listen.i bet the majority of it most people have never heard of either
*FUBU is a black owned brand that stands for-For Us By Us.i dont understand why any white person would wear it
*apparently BUFU was brought out by white ppl that stands for-By Us Fuck U
*while we're on the subject of clothes-Von dutch was a 50's hot rod pinstriper/muralist and also a really good artist but on top of that was a pretty full on devout NEO NAZI and would hate the thought of non-white ppl wearing his clothes.actually he'd prob hate the fact that aanyone wears clothes with his name on it,he was a bit of a nut job apparently.his daughters cashed in on his name after he died.i think his clothes are overpriced shit anyways.
question to bathurst91-so ppl who play basketball with no shirts on are wannabe gangstas?thanks for the heads up mate,i'll know to
steer clear of them from now in case they pull out their 9mm and try and bust a cap coz i'm on their turf right???
at least you have some taste in music, been a fan of RATM going on about 10 years now...

bathurst-91 wrote on Tue, 29 March 2005 21:55 | And while were on the subject. Why is it that dodge rappers are the ones getting the respect? Drug dealers with nothing to talk about but their egos.
Why cant I hear something that's a little bit 'bigger' theme wise then hoes and turf wars..
"Yeah, neva forget that tha wip snapped ya back
Ya spine cracked for tobacco, oh I'm the Marlboro man, uh
Our past blastin' on through the verses
Brigades of taxi cabs rollin' Broadway like hearses
Troops strippin' zoots, shots of red mist,
Sailors blood on tha deck, come sista resist
From tha era of terror check this photo lens,
Now tha city of angels does the ethnic cleanse
Uh, heads bobbin' to tha funk out ya speaker, on tha one Maya, Mexica
That vulture came to try and steal ya name
But now you found a gun, you're history, this is for the people of the sun"
"Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
No shelter if you're lookin' for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
A Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The camera's eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
Yes a spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins and stole your eyes
Or the fistagons
The bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord"
"I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You were mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before ya realise
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high"
Best. "Rapper". ever.

Other than that, good luck I guess.

For those interested:
I've just started an online streaming AUSSIE HIPHOP radio station:
currently playing on random from my 265 ripped aussie hiphop songs (yes I DO OWN ALL THE ORIGINAL CD'S)
here's the instructions:
Open winamp 3 or newer.
Open playlist
choose open url:
put in:
http://209.213.125.65:8000
Away you go.
The stream is currently at 48kbps but once i am uncapped and assess how much bandwidth this is going to use will go to a 128kbps stream.
Enjoy.
