3tgte manifold t25 compatibility Tue, 22 March 2005 05:54 Go to next message
was wondering can u get a t25/t28 bolted up to a standard manifold using an adapter plate.
leaving only the oil/water feed and returns dump pipe and inlet changed.
is this turbo well suited to this engine?
has any one had success using the standard manifold?

good as far as I know.
seems to produce good results. spooltastic and greater power than stock.

I have one of these turbos for my 3T-GTEU... not put it on yet.
SOON. I am going to make up a new manifold instead of adapting the old stock one.

Sure, the CT26 is a pretty good turbo, and doesn't require an adapter plate, but it is damn chunky, and still needs custom oil & water lines anyway.

The T25 and particularly the T28 on the other hand, are much more compact, use common fittings (I really hate the combined oil feed & return flange on the CT20/26), and have MUCH better response with adequate top end flow to match the CT26.

Plus a T28 from a 200SX or similar is significantly newer than an old CT26.

I've had the CT26 on my old 3TGTE, and i'd prefer the garrett Very Happy

By the time you fit an adapter to the standard manifold, you run out of room to get the oil return line back into the block - been there done that. I prefer to custom make a complete new maniofld for several reasons: You can 'place the turbo anywhere you want with it, you avoid the heat cracked standard manifold issues, and you can build it to do what ever you want. Alternatively, you can also cut off the old CT20 base plate, heat the manifold up and weld on a new flange, but this brings problems mentioned above, along with the joy of trying to find a competent welder for the cast iron to mild steel flange too.
