ST18X Front Bumper Options Wed, 23 March 2005 16:09 Go to next message
Putting the feelers out for my options, front bar wise. I want to replace my current GT4 style front bumper:

with an item that will include:
Facility for a large front mount intercooler,
Driving lights, so I can keep the main headlights down during the day, and
Brake ducts, for future motorsport use.

Now unfortunately I can't get all these in any standard front bar - not even a GT4 Group A bar:

So my idea is to find the closest thing possible, pull it to pieces and modify it to suit my needs.

My personal preferenace is to have the driving lights as an intergral part of the bumper - I don't want crappy afterthought looking intrusions into the intercooler area, and I want them on the corner of the car - the larger I look coming towards you, hopefully the more attention you'll pay to me as I pass you. The brake ducts will then sit inboard of the driving lights, that will also retain the standard indicator assembly above them, with the remaining space for the intercooler to do it's job.

Now the question I pose to all those with these types of car - what can I get easily in Australia? I've looked around, I think my best option is to start with an 92-93 SX/GT front bar as they have large driving lights exactly where I want them:

If you have a similar style front bar as the three shown above, please list your year and model Celica, and I'll look into it. Alternatively, if anyone can list any other suggestions, go for it?!

even with my group a bar + intercooler - theres sill room either side to run brake ducting from the mid section - youd just need to do some creatve piping + maybe add onto the bumper gtr skyline / v8 supercar sytle to direct airflow to intercooler AND two side ducts ..

otherwise late model sx bar with the mouth opened up + the mountimg bar behind it modified to take a cooler ( otherwise theres no room ) is about your only option

True, but it doesn't have easy facility for the driving lights given my preferred setup - and I'd rather have these over brake ducts if I had to choose.
