around turn 2 the car is pullin between 7500 and 8000 rpm in third, but it/ll hold that all the time, we are gonna be pullin the centermuffler out, cause we feel its restricting airflow just a bit too much, so we'll see what happens..

yeah but the question will always remain in your mind...i have just spent $2200 on a poo ass T50, WHAT IF IT BREAKS!

you convert to a W series box and once the conversion is done, i.e. clutch/bellhousing/tailshaft/etc etc, if you still break which would be hard, you can get a W55 or W57 out of an RA60 for $100 down here in adelaide from U Pull It and Bammo done! (not that you would break it anyway)

you could convert to W57 for about $1000 if you were handy and then you will never have to change the gearbox ever again.

p.s. LMAO @ fuckface Laughing Laughing Laughing

dude notchy from straight cut gears isnt like tight from gear to gear, you basically have to crunch it from gear to gear, therefore more stress than normal

Hey Garth for around $1400 I'll be pretty much running a bulletproof 'box, which then will enable me to run a bigger clutch then what is usually behind a 4agte. I've got a W58, albeit at mates rates, plus the Niteparts bellhousing which was expensive yes, but then I can run a 230mm clutch, which wouldnt hurt behind an N/A 4age either I would think. My T-50 felt dodgy behind the 4ac, let alone behind a 4age or even gz/te. For the amount of money you're going to spend on dog-gears for a T-50, you might aswell get a W58, 4a bellhousing and beefy clutch for around 1/2 the price of a dog-box, also being safe in the knowledge that you could give the thing absolute hell behind your 4age and it wont hurt it one bit. I'd be mighty pissed if my big-dollar T-50 spat the biscuit after a bit of abuse, when you could do the W58 swap in no time at all, you'd never have to touch the 'box again. Originality VS reliability/strength, I sure as hell know which one I'd go for, even if it means a bit more weight from the W58. Smile

ok you experts, answer me these questions 3... or more

so what kinda clutches can i get for a w57/58
which w box is better?
now much are niteparts 4a housings?
is the shifter position the same?
do i need to cut anything or move any crossmember mounts?
can i get a shortshift for a w series?
and from where?
does it weigh much more?
do i have to modify the tailshaft to accmodate?

DAMMIT garth.......
ANy clutch you like, custom anything

Niteparts approx 700 ( but others are out there just look)

three shifter options on w boxes so can be same or choose forward or back

redrill w crossmember to suit sprinter floor

shortshifter easy

weight PFFFTT (like you drive your car hard enough to make it matter)

Yes custom tailshaft.

you dont necessarily need a niteparts bellhousings, there are other ones on the market that go for around $450, just dont get the dellow ones because they dont fit, and dellow are rather gay to deal with.

but just to reiterate on what josh has said, all of that shit is easy to get, as the W series boxes were actually used in more cars than T50's and there are a host of aftermarket parts for them, including short shifters Shocked I know it shocked me too Rolling Eyes

does it weigh much more?
do i have to modify the tailshaft to accmodate?

* any clutch, I'll be using a 4agze flywheel so a clutch to suit that but which will also happily put up with 200hp.
*I went W58 because they seemed the most common, plus my gearbox mate gets 20 of the fuckers on a pallet from his supplier every couple of months lol, so it was convenient, plus I know its strong.
*My Niteparts bellhousing was well over $800, but that was the sacrifice to be able to run a bigger clutch.
*My shifter is about an inch further forward now with the W58 I think, but the shifter does have a bit of a rearwards angle on it, so pretty much the same spot as T-50 I think, you've just got to make sure you get the 1st or 2nd shifter position.
*Yeh the W58 is a bit heavier than the T-50 so just strip some weight out of the hatch lol. Very Happy
*Yeh custom tailshaft, will set you back all of about $200. Smile

so what... do you need to modify the interior plastic surround for the shifter posi? or does it fit straight up thru the chassis and the plastic?

$500 for a reconditoned w58?
$900 for a niteparts bellhousing?
$200 for a custom driveshaft
$250 for a c's shortshifter

is all this really required for an 200hp NA 4age?

well ive smashed one jap spec t50 and ive only got 160hp, so yes its very necessary... and when or if it breaks its only $350 for a w58 so easy to replace not like an $1800 set of gears for a t50.. i know my choice...

nope these were from another friend, they came in on one of his cefiro's stuck out like 3 inches from the guards on it....

just so happens they fitted my bodywork already, hehe but good luck putten em under stock bodywork. read previous in the thread to see how the guards were done.....

ohh and just a teaser of another set of rims we are cleaning up at the moment......
