Hilux diff - corolla? Tue, 29 March 2005 06:13 Go to next message
Hey
What would have to be done to put a hilux diff in a corolla with an LSD centre? Also what would be a good ratio is it? Like 4:3? I'm after mostly acceleration.
Thanks
Troy!

Well, you'd have to modify the mounts and so forth to fit a hilux diff inside a corolla. And I'm guessing you'll have to shorten it, becuase I greatly doubt there's any hilux diff as short as a corolla. But you may not have to shorten much.

The ratio's you'll commonly get are 4.1:1 I think it is. Depends though, that's the common open wheeler one. The LSD ones are way different in the ratios.

you need the RN25-27 diff, it will fit without cutting it down, u will then need to cut and move the spring seats out 25mm each side, you will also need to make new handbrake cables up, which will be one of the harder parts of the job...
you will need to get the rear hiulx uni welded into your tailshaft and the tailshaft shortend

if you want 4.3LSD you will need to get that center out of a later model hulix then get the ends of the (RN27) axels machined down so it doesnt all bind together when you do it up

all in all its not that hard, we put mine in over a weekend

Thanks for the reply dude! I"ll be doing that once I've worked the motor. DO you reckon 4:3, is a good setup for acceleration? Or any other recommendations!
Thanks
Troy

well what motor are you running in it?
if its an N/A motor id run like a 4.5 or 4.8
if its turbo id ran 4.3 or 4.1

all depends on what your doing to it

Josh,

When you say, 'get the RN27 axles machined down', what do you mean exactly ? Is it 5mm taken off the splined end of each axle, that goes into the diff centre?

Thanks,
Mitch.

What model corolla are we talking about here anyway? Confused

You'd do yourself a big favour to be a bit more specific about your current specs, and future aim Cool

Hilux diff is serious overkill. A T series from a Celica would be adequate.
