About a toyota cressida Tue, 29 March 2005 09:41 Go to next message
I just bought the 3.0L cressida real low k's and all. The only thing is the tranny works like crap. It doesnt downgear well and doesnt drive 2 great. I want to convert it to a manual caus the auto is fooked and I love manuals. My dad is a mechanic so basically I just wanted some tips on what Ill need and what tranny's are compatible? Also if any1 had done it b4 I would love advice Smile
Any tips on how 2 increase the power without buying parts would also be great. I increased the air flow a bit already. Any other things I can do? Smile

ALso if any1 knows how 2 fix the problem with my auto not downgearing well even with the pwr button on that would be great.

some more info would help - tho it's safe to assume that you have a 7mge engine.
model number of cressida?
model of gearbox (see code on build plate of car on firewall)?

you'll probably want a W57 or W58 gearbox, plus M series bellhousing, plus allthe bits missing from your car that manuals have.

also, search for 'manual conversion' and you'll find out more about converting to a manual box.

also, search thru the member's rides for similar cars & manual conversions.

as for performance tips - search for 'performance' in technical articles

(sits back to wait for usual flamage of newbies)

What car are those tranny's off? Is this engine the same base engine as the the supra of the same yr?

You can get all the bits needed from a MA70 supra (86-91)
ring the Toyota wreckers and ask for a conversion kit and if
they are any good you should get all the parts needed.

regards
MATT.

i could tell you all about it but im too lazy rite now

talk to a member off these forums; "wilbo666"

he has a MX62 (couple models before yours), he has converted his cressida to manual....it is basically the same conversion.

you might have problems with your ecu, it may rely on the auto transmission to work properly...im not to knowledged up on this stuff

anyway, talk to "wilbo666" he set you straight
