different 7m's and different 1jz's for ma61 Thu, 31 March 2005 07:36 Go to next message
hey

i'm wanting to do a conversion for my ma61 and was looking at either a 7m or 1jz. now i've looked around a bit and i'm leaning toward getting a half cut. i've also been looking at importing a car from japan and using it as a donar car then selling off the rest of the car as parts or wreck making some of my money back.

my question is what are the differences between the 7m's that come from supras/soarers? and the same for the cars that the 1jz's come out of?

i've read up on what needs to be done to get the engines in, what needs to be bought to run them and stuff. just want to know the difference so i'm not limiting myself to one type of car with the same engine as another.

Differences in 7m's is negliable.

Manual cuts run a higher boost from factory, but they are all mid/rear sumps.

In 1jz land, the best is a front sump version.
ie, JZX81/90 chasers (not sure what the 100 and 110 have)
But they are all autos.

JZS14x Aristo's/GS300s have front sumps too, but they are 2jz's

Manuals are in the JZA70 Supra, and JZZ30 Soarers.

Sumps can be swapped from motor to motor, and you can pick up a front sump from around $250-$450 mark, or get it all new from Toyota for about $800.

would that mean that any car with the same engine would have the same engine mounts?

No, but you will be using bonneyville mounts for a 1jz into ma61 anyway.

So any mounts that come with the motor are worthless to you.

But they are all autos.

Incorrect, mostly auto.

I believe (but am not sure) that mark2 1jzs are also front sump - but they are harder to come across than chaser cuts

remember for the 1jz that you'll need 2jz-ge gbox, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch etc if you want to run the w58 box, so if you're going aftermarket ecu (like me) there's not a whole lot of difference between an auto and manual cut.

I'm 100% sure the JZX81 was never manual, but I don't know about the JZX90

Methinks this could be one of those magical figures you think you read Wink

Indeed it is not.

The R154 does not fit the JZX81 tunnel without mods, just like it does not fit the MX83 tunnel without mods.

Thus my conclusion that JZX81's never had factory manuals.

And the EPC confirms this, so you have facts and not hearsay now Wink

Mark II, chaser and cresta are basically the same car but slightly different lights and interior gadgetry. Aimed at different target markets. All the 90 series are front sump though.
