Looks like a V161 but can't be sure until the box arrives. The car it came out of was an SZ-R, ie atmo 2JZ-GE, so hopefully that means the box has had a pretty easy life.

Where there is a will, Norbs will find a way.
People told Justen that a G series diff wouldn't fit in the back of the GpA, but it did. !!!

This is true. Although it isn't that bad, first gear would be the worst.
These are speeds for 7000rpm changes:
Gearbox/Diff
V160/3.54 1st-61.9 2nd-100.4 3rd-140.6 4th-180.6 5th-236.9 6th-298.8
V161/3.54 1st-63.6 2nd-105.5 3rd-153.7 4th-196.6 5th-236.9 6th-289.7
R154/3.54 1st-72.8 2nd-121.2 3rd-180.9 4th-236.9 5th-314.7
W58/3.54 1st-72.1 2nd-125.1 3rd-185.8 4th-236.9 5th-302.6
W58/4.1 1st-62.2 2nd-108.0 3rd-160.4 4th-180.6 5th-261.3
Yes, and before you ask, I am bored.

Okay, they're a little bit out because I needed to do it for 3.58 instead of 3.54, but they're close enough for comparison.

This is true, so look at the W58 one and then drop off some kph from the 5th gear one He's had both, and the W57 was just a temporary measure

Yeah, but you're bored remember .....
Anyway, after a short ride in the car, it is a bloody bullet in first gear as it is with the 3.58, let alone what it will be like with the 6 speeder.
Mind you, 9km/hr difference at about 280+ is not worth worrying about...
As an interesting point, the new Aisan 6 speed box used in the SV6 Crumpledore has a 2.87:1 final drive ratio !!!!!!

Any idea what the R154 does in front of a 3.78 diff ?

Haha thanks JCMF, damn you must have been bored. Not a huge difference in first between the W58 and V161, so hopefully it will work out ok. Mind you, I haven't ruled out the possibility of an A series diff conversion...
Draven: I expect retail price would have been around the $3k mark, but obviously that depends how much the box goes for in Japan. I've seen a difference of over $1k in the selling price over there.
What problems am I expecting? Lots of them.
Shortening the shifter mechanism is an option but Stenno reckons I should leave it be and butcher my transmission tunnel instead. I'll decide that one after taking a few measurements. The tunnel will also need some serious "adjustment" to accomodate the extra width towards the rear of the box... I'm hoping I can do this with a BFH and lots of elbow grease, but I suspect it will be necessary to cut and shut. Once again, we'll have to wait and see.

No problems mate. 1st gear will be the only problem, probably akin to your original setup pre Truetrac and 3.58.

mr 1ggte - it has been inferred by previous posts that this info wont be let loose, and for good reason.
V161's are NOT CHEAP. lets just leave it at that.

First off congrats. This is serious kickass material.

Before you go wacko and cut and shut (mind you I had to do this in the Crown to adequately fit the A340), try drilling a hole, screw in a screw and weld it in place to firmly secure it and then try and "pull" the tunnel into shape with a slide hammer and appropriate attachment. Sure beats using the sledgy under the car.

Good thinking! Methinks I'll try the GT method when the time comes. Believe me I don't want to go butchering my trans tunnel if I can avoid it.
