SA63 Diff Upgrade Wed, 06 April 2005 03:25 Go to next message
I'm sick of having to baby my car because of the weak t series diff.

So i'm looking at chucking in a Ma61/RA65 F series diff.

I'm told it's the best option has anybody done this before ?
I understand the same diff is in the RA65 ?
I'm not too sure tho.

The car also needs an LSD at some stage aswell this being one of the main reasons for the swap.

So any experience in this area would be great thanks.

indeed.
I have just done this.
Diff out of a Soarer (same as the MA61) into my TA63.
it was _almost_ a direct bolt in.

it is a little bit wider I think..
you will need to use the top crossmember thing from the old diff, and put it on the new one..
then its pretty much shove it in.
its a bit of a squeese to get it on the front mounts, there is this shelf that it kinda sits on..
ime not sure if I just put it in wrong, but this was the biggest pain for me.

its all good, everything went in fine.

not given it a spin yet, but hopefully this weekend =D

Yup, RA65/MA61/MZ10 should all be bolt-in, but as mentioned you will need the diff cradle along with the diff itself. Try to get your hands on an MA61 diff as they have an LSD centre already, but obviously the RA65 diff will be much easier to find and you can always put in an LSD centre later. I have an MA61 diff for sale but shipping to Tas would be a killer for something that heavy.

If you're really lucky you could score a complete MA61 rear end with disc brakes as well!

I've just comeback from frickin woop woop but before i go a guy said he had a diff to sell me so if he still has it i might buy his..............
unless urs is lsd norbie and it's a good price.

I would be getting a friend to do it for as i don't have the time or equipment and i can't be bothered.

but i'm glad it's pretty much a direct bolt in.

I know a few people have done it but when i searched there were no threads to get info off.

Will i need my driveshaft modded ?
thanks for the help guys

oh yeah.
my tailshaft was ~10mm too long.

though I have replaced the gearbox with a 6speed unit.
and things may be different for a stock box.

I used a stock tailshaft from a celica, or a supra from the stock pile here Razz
