i was at a mates today n he has a 1600datto n he has an l16 in it i tihnk... n he was talkin about doing a draw through carb turbo setup...
then i got me thinkn about the 18rc motor...

yes the 18rc - most of u will say dont bother but hear me out...

i was thinkn of a good size turbo to use on the motor i started thinkn a gt25 or soemthing... and then i started thinkn about 1ggte turbos the ct12's.

can u see where this is going?

well i had an idea to have the twin ct12's with blow through carbs of a charade Laughing

then i got onto wat if u could use the turbos off the charades just x2 and have 2 blow through carbs off that motor...

well u can fill in the small details but my mind was running wild today...

what kinda powah could u get out of something like that?

but the only thing ive forgotten is wither the intake is on the opposite side because thinkn about the datto motor there both on the same side.
so hmmm

and no im NOT ON CRACK OR NE OTHER FOR OF DRUGS AT THIS POINT IN TIME.

cheers
-jeff

Given the design and age of the 18R-C its very likely that this motor will produce less power than the standard engine the CT12's come from. Its all custom anyway you look at it so why use these small turbo's ?
A twin turbo 18RC will sound Hollywood to anyone that does not know Toyota engines, but to us, it would be a case of "Why waste your time, money and effort when so much better is available for less ?".

mainly because if you do it on a cheapo budget it wont work well, you NEED efi or at least lpg to get any decent mixtures and even then its still just an old 18R with a turbo.. if you have the crap laying around and too much time go for it otherwise start with a better engine

because a crossflow motor would be 100,000,004 times easier than having all that stuff stuck on one side of the motor... oh, nearly forgot, tunable fuel is much more sensible, but efi-for-18R is very rare...

basically, you have to custom build everything - whereas 18rg or 1ggte or 2tge or 3sgte or etc., even the humble 21re have efi intake all ready to use and there's probably used hardware you can buy for turbo/exhaust manifold, dump pipe etc. plus there's lots of advice out there (and here) on tuning and setting up these engines for turbo power

i'm on manifold #2, turbo #2, intake converted to EFI, programmable ECU and this will be the last major mods done to the motor as it's too old/hard/painful to work on.

it might be fun to drive, plus it really gets people thinking about alternative mods for engines - but i'm pissed that i didn't started out with a more suitable motor.

O righto then, so if its the 18rc its not realy worth it, however if its crossflow like the 18rg, it shouldnt be any worries. budget isnt a problem for me, i work in a P-Mods workshop.

actually no ..

you'll have even less money left after doing this - comapred to buying a motor or F/cut.

if you want kick - take up selling drugs or base jumping, they're both cheaper and easier
