Urgent windows help - now fixed! Sat, 09 April 2005 10:38 Go to next message
Today I was getting rid of some spyware on my computer & i've deleted something which has stuffed Windows Mad

EDIT: This article explains the problem. Now I have to find my CD & see if it works.

2nd (very tired) EDIT: Finally fixed the problem, now it's about time I backed up some of my files. And for those of you who like to bag out HP and other brand computers, just a quick note that the HP system recovery actually managed to fix my computer when Windows wouldn't even start...

you deleted your MBR didnt you?

most hackers fuck you over by deleting whats called you Master Boot Record. basically, it tells your computer what to do when you turn it on,

delete this, and your computer is a lump of metal and silicon.

you deleted your MBR didnt you?

Well there was a conflict somewhere between the boot.ini & some corrupted *.dll files. If the boot.ini file stuffs up the MBR then I guess that was the problem...

Malicia, is your computer partitioned into the C:\ main drive and D:\ HP recovery partition? If so then all of your main Windows files should be backed up on the D:\ drive. To access the recovery menu hit F10 on the HP screen right at the start.

Anyway my computer is now running alot faster, so at least some positive came out of it all Very Happy

boot.ini is a part of the boot srap, along with 2 other files which, for the life of me i cannot remember, look at the time for reference Wink
