prepped 88270 18RG head, 18RGEU series, NEW PICS Thu, 07 April 2005 08:06 Go to next message
my workmate has a prepped 88270 head for sale, it has TRD valves, dual springs {not sure whether they are std or not, can have them tested tho if interested}.
Not sure if it has been ported as there is some carbon deposits in the ports {will look on monday},

it came off a hi compression big bore engine that shit a piston {did the ringlands}, no damage to the head, just put in an 18RGU instead.

lumpy cams can be suplied for a price too.

Looking for $350

will also be getting either a 88250 or 88253 head too, it has bent valves, might be able to do a deal too.

Any Idea of the duration or lift of the big cams? I might be interested if you'll sell them separate.

Cheers
Glen

Hey Phil,

Can you give me a bit of a report on the head?

Valve sizes
Port enlargement and quality of port job
valve springs (not hugely fussed, planned upgrade anyway)
corrosion present

once that comes through, if that all looks good enough I would buy, pending basic light pressure test to find if cracked.

I realise this may be asking a lot, but we have already got one ported head with a ten inch crack in it, don't really need another spare!

You could email me if that's easier for you, or PM is fine too.

Thanks

have pics, have specs

head IS an 88270 head {EFI}

engine was running, broke ringland so a stock fresh 18RGU was put in instead.

has had port job on both intake and exhaust sides, has TRD valves on both inlet and exhaust, has HUGE cams, has been running on optimax, as u can see from the cleanliness of the intake port {the rumours about the optimax cleansing are true}, i have not touched the inlet ports, or tried to clean them in anyway

VALVES
Valves are TRD, inlet is 47mm{1.85"}, normally they are 45mm, exhaust are 40.5mm{1.6"} normally are 39mm

PORTS
Porting looks to be extensive, very high quality, {compare the std 88270 pic to the ported one, gave the exhaust port a bit of a run over with the fine wire "wheel" to get rid of some of the carbon, u can also see that its ported too.

CAMS
cams are a base grind,
Intake part number is 124E, {might be wade grinds} has a gross lift of 442"{11.42mm} net of 432' {10.97mm},
Exhaust part number is 166, has a gross lift of 475" {12.06mm} and 465" net {11.81mm}

gross std lift on 88270 cams are 10.3mm for the intake and 9.7 for the exhaust

pics below are of the ported head

That second TRD valve doesn't look too good.

What do you think?

the valves are fine, had a nice layer of carbon on it {as most exhaust valves do}, so i gave it a hit with the wire wheel so the word TRD could be read, once cleaned up properly i will be prefectly

Oops, I just sent you a message asking for the pics that you just posted up.

I sent you the sets of cam profiles a minute ago.

After seeing the photos, all questions are answered, I want that head!

here are the pics of the water ports, i havent tried to clean them up tho

the one below is of one of the water drains, the black/brown deposits are the headgasket glue, not corrosion

http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=getfile&id=11177

this one is of where the thermostat housing bolts to, see theres no corrosion what so ever, that is gasket paper around the outside too.

http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=getfile&id=11179

this is one of the water feeds to the inlet manifold, has some very minor corrosion, negligible really

Sure does look good to me!

Those shims must be monsters, is there actually anything left of the base circle on those cams?
We are currently running base circle regrinds and the buckets are not as far out as those ones are. My guess on shim thickness there is about 4.5mm.
Doesn't make too much difference to me though, will be going back to STD 88270 cams and shims for the turbo project.

PM sent.
Any idea on what power the engine was making.
What sort of comp ratio was it running?

Cool I'm interested in the big cams if you want to sell them separate. How much were you looking for them?
