1G-GTE engine number Thu, 14 April 2005 02:02 Go to next message
Guys,

Anyone know the exact location of the engine number on the 1g-gte?

I remember seeing it when the motor was out and thinking I should have written it down, had a look with a torch in the evening light but couldnt find it. Will put the car up on ramps on saturday but would like to definatly know where I'm looking.

From memory it's near the back, on the starter motor side?

I think thats where I saw it... near the bottom of the block... memory slipping away... slowly...losing...grasp...of...reality....

Shame on Craig for not telling you when he asked me last night, its under the Inlet manifold next to the oil filter towards the back of the motor, so its kinda in the middle of the motor. It was a cunt to find even with the motor i got sitting there out of the car.

gidday

On a gen 1 and 2 the number is low on the LHS of the engine just below the rear knock sensor. On Gen 3 it is on the casting that bolts up to the bell housing near the starter motor. Good torch and mirror makes it easy to see.

I beg to differ about the position on the gen1 as mine is high up just under the inlet next to the oil filter higher than the knock sensor positions, though who knows toyota change things like they change underwear

ok that makes sense.

cos I checked out my mates 1g w/a and it was where I described. to the right of the oilfilter above the welsh plug. but that was blank on my one(gen 3).

it's been sent to brissy now so I'll hopefully be able to find a pic of the build plate ot supply the engine number.
