Ae86 Carbon Fibre Dash Fri, 15 April 2005 04:20 Go to next message
I could get a friend who owns a company that makes interior bits with real carbon fibre. Would anyone be interested in have like a group buy or individual buys on such an item as this...

http://www.modifiedinc.com/86products/dash2.jpg

http://www.modifiedinc.com/86products/dash1.jpg

I am going to get him to mock it up using my car. His work is excellent.
Would be good for guys with cracked dashs. Something different.

Cheers

Carbon fibre isn't bulletproof. You're thinking of kevlar. The inner ricer in me wants one of these for the XX.

nods it could be made to be more matt finish - but that top one would be a nightmare to drive with ..

My vinyl dash gives me enough grief let alone a smooth finish shiney surface like that!

To be honest Rex believes it looks like a simple Carbon fibre skin laid over an original dash.

Seriously the glare isn't there. It can all be controlled by the finish you use.
I will get one made then i will get back to you guys.

i wouldn't compare a trd wing to a piece of bullshit rice that acctually ADDS weight...

trd did research the increase downforce in its products for the 86... i know the trd front lip adds something like 20-40% airflow into the engine bay. if the wings were compeltly useless, u wouldn't see 90% of the 86 racing series sporting the trd wing and then another gt-wing

but for mr average driver, then yes, the trd wing is rather useless... but not as useless as a skin cover for a dash

If you don't like it or don't want it fuck off. Simple.

although its sumthing different i guess.

Evan, try sending Screech a PM man, see what he thinks about it, cuz i was talkin to him today and he reckons he is going to start making things out of carbon fibre as skins i presume, if u suggest the dash, he might look into it and can make one up for u guys, i dont think modified inc would have one in RHD. All i know is that he has priced up carbon fibre by the square metre and knows sum guy that works with stuff like that.

Who knows its could prob work out cheaper than the modified inc one

id check into the legality of this.... i think you wil find the dash must be covered in some form of impact absorbant material... now i know by now with age and impact absorption has well and truly gone from an ae86 dash god knows it has from my aw11 but even still im sure const. plod would hassle you over it.. esp if it was in high gloss like that.

I thikn the carbon dashes look hot ... carbon fibre is a great looking product..

with these being skins, does he have a mould and make the peice top slip over, or does he take the whole dash and skin it onto the peice?

lol its hard not to. I'm just trying to help and the ignorance and stupid comments piss me off.
I can see wether he could make a whole dash replacement, but the cost maybe quite large. He could generaly make whateva you want. I am going to be getting alot done through him.

I like the idea of carbon if it saves weight and is functional (that was my point before). If your doing other bits I like the idea of a carbon fibre inner door skin. Like one layer with a smidge of resin would be pretty light and solid.

Just an idea though
