electrical problem - help me out! Mon, 18 April 2005 10:43 Go to next message
gday guyz

my sister's auto 89 magna just keeps clonking out temperamentaly.

scenenario 1: on a warm start from the shop parking lot, the car would not start. I got a call to go and see what i could do, and eventually i found the ignition fuse in the engine fuse box to be slightly popped out - i pushed it back in, and it was fine.

scenario 2: this morning, she was driving to work, 2 mins from home at cold start, going out of a roundabout up a slight hill, it clonked out. She described it as each cylinder going out consecutively and eventually dying. She tried to start it again but it just wouldn't turn over. It DID crank, but wouldn't turn over.

side notes:

-it has always had a red battery light coming up on the dash - it didn't seem to do anything but dim the headlights when driving.

-the car did clonk out on one or two occasions, but it eventually turned over and she kept driving.

-alternator volts gauge seems to stay over half 70% of the time, but i have a feeling the alternator is fine

thoughts? help me/her out!
