apart form finding extractors for it (try your local pick-a-part as they're not worth buying new or custom) and maybe replacing the stock carbi with a webber from a 2 litre cortina or similar - leave it as is and find a more suitable candidate (e.g. crossflow, twin cam, etc) for improvement.

Yeah, disappointment after disappointment has thought us that its just not worth spending money on tuning a RC. I just took my head off to replace the valve stem oil seals because it was drinking a liter every 1000 k's. As I was lapping the valves one broke in half. I wasnt putting a lot of pressure on it with the drill ad it had plenty of paste. It looks like I just averted a broken valve break down. Things are starting to go on the RC's that have never gone before.

YEP BETTER OFF WITH RG HAD PLENTY TO DO WITH RC YOU GIVE A HIDING AND 40000KM LATER YOU HAVE A TIMMING CHAIN RATTLE LOW ON POWER AND THE HEADS LACK THE UNDERSTANDING OF FLOW THEY WILL NOT EVEN SPOOL UP A T04 TURBO THERE SO POOR ON FLOW BETTER OFF SPENDING 500 ON A POOR RG AND REBUILD IT TO YOUR SPEC MUCH EASIER.

A lumpier cam will give it some go, spec's are similar to what have been run in early Nissan NA motors, but really, the only way to get an 18R-C moving fast is to drop it out of an aircraft at 35,000 ft....
