For those who didn't believe you could fit a Holden V6 under the bonnet of a TA22..behold I have done it. I still have some tweaking to do but it is running in engine bay.

Toyota marrying a Holden, match made in heaven.

Here's a pic, more to come.

I for one will not knock the transplant.
As most people know I run a VP commodore motor in my Hi-Ace I would be interested in hearing more about your Celica.

You should have gone a Series 2 engine. Only reason I say this is the radiator piping is a pain on the old engine. On the Series 2 the thermostat housing is at the front.

Whilst you'll cop a lot of flack (Crappy pushrod design!!), I always like to see a different conversion. I think you'll be very suprised with the resluts though. The Buicks are very pokey down low and pull well, they do run out of breath up high.
Are you running a T-700 or T5?

I'd probably suggest a bigger radiator, and you look a little space restricted for a thermofan and shroud.

Keep us updated with pics.

I have updated the web site and in the new pics you can see there is no problem with changing the spark plugs. Also, I can still fit a thermo fan in. The radiator has an extra core to keep it cool.

It is a turbo 700 transmission with a few mods (140kmh in top end of second with commodore diff).

The engine has a cam of unknown origin and mild port heads so it doesn't run out of puff through all the rev range (800rpm-6500rpm Very Happy ).

Sorry about the pic size, I'm a mechanic not a computer whiz.

theres another conversion like this getting around colac here - looks very neat and all - prolly quite a nice cruiser too

be interesting to see how this one goes in a straight line - cause abeilt being a nice neat looking conversion , thats a fair whack of weight over the front .. Have you uprated the front end by any chance to cope with this ?

A supercharged one would be interesting to say the least - Still not convinced it will handle all that well - but in a straight line the theory of big engine light car holds true in this case

Re: My V6 Celica Sat, 23 April 2005 23:07 Go to previous message
good on ya mate,

dont listen to what all the knockers say.

i have a commo v6 in my rodeo, which is considerably lighter than a commodore, it has 5 speed and 4.3 diff gears.

it is very torqey down low, i reckon it would be a lot of fun in a celica...... i dont think i would swap it for the single turbo 1g in my celica, but at least yours is something different.

out of interest have you looked into getting it engineered? i thought in nsw the engine could only be 3.5 times the wieght og the car?

Cheers
Stew
