Pm's replied. I'm starting to think perhaps I should've just parked it out the front and started the Auction!

Thanks for the interest guys - I would much rather see the old chariot go to a keen toymodder rather than putting it in the trading post . . .

I'm hoping to get a rwc done soon, time permitting. A few other things i left out: original in dash tacho modified for 8 cyl, custom rear sway bar, tailshaft loop, towbar, and engine fitted with "Hi Energy" winged and baffled sump.

Cheers, Marcus.

A neat example...you'd be hard pressed to find a Celica with a 302 these days!

The sticker must make it worth at least another $500...hehe

Good luck with the sale!

Re: 1976 TA23 Celica V8 $6500 RWC & 6 months reg - Melb Wed, 18 May 2005 14:44 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Yep, I've priced the car at what I think is realistic with hoping to have it sold by end of the month. I'm not a car salesman. And I'm not making any money on the deal. Just need to move on.

I've only ever driven the little beast as a cruiser and not thrashed it. I actually have never stood on the throttle from a standing start... Never felt the urge to. Motor runs standard spec camshaft and factory 4 barrel intake, so its not exactly a monster. Cubic capacity gives it heaps of effortless low down power though. POTENTIAL is the key word for speed freaks.

Quickest way to get the right answer about the RTA is to call and run a hypothetical situation by them. would be interesting to know.

Cheers

Re: 1976 TA23 Celica V8 $6500 RWC & 6 months reg - Melb Sun, 22 May 2005 10:19 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I now have an answer to the "how does it go?" question.

It is a fast car, keeping in mind that fast is a relative term.

From the line, traction is at the mercy of your right foot. Once you get hooked up and moving, wheelspin into second gear occurs somewhere around 70kmh @4000rpm (D for drive), and all that happens fairly quickly.

For those that like numbers: it would be reasonable to conservatively estimate a very mild 4 barrel 5litre windsor v8 at 200hp(150kW) & 280lb-ft(380Nm), pushing a 1200kg mass in street trim.
Compared to a 2005 WRX: 168kW & 300Nm @ 1390kg (from www.autoguide.com.au). Obviously there is a traction difference but it should help give an indication. Economy wise, the celica manages up to 400kms from $25 of brand name LPG.

If you're after something different it would take very little to turn this into a white knuckle express. With how cheap and easy it is to extract power from these engines I'm surprised this car is still sitting in the garage.

Cheers

nah, missed the port melbourne meet because of work. Sounded like it was pretty damn good though. as usual the celica waited patiently in the garage...

this car is old school all the way - will include free bag of premium brand rice for old school phobics. Very Happy
