I'm thinking of getting a XF ute for a tow car among things, and I was also thinking of the eligability for it to have a 1uz (maybe one of the landcruiser 2 uz's? with an auto behind it. All standard, standard computer and the likes.
Matt, I'm thinkng I'd be able to get some form of complete conversion from you no?

Late-model 302's aren't too bad for fuel. Should be a bolt-in too.

I'm gonna buy an XF as a tow car and a daily driver to the train station and back for when I move back home.
Because I have lost my car park in the city now

just buy a 351 clevo, itll end up costing u a LOT less and be a LOT easier than rooting around with a toyota v8.
Id expect for a whole conversion pending box you choose etc itd only be ~$3000 including a reasonably GC motor....

It has been done I have worked on it and it go's great
As a tow car you could not ask for more I use my UZX-73 to tow the rally car on a tandem trailer to rally's and when I am passing cars going up steep hills at 130km/h (not that I condone that sort of thing )and using FA fuel doing it, I am smiling very wide
I Have not heard of ANY engine from ANY manufacturer that is more efficient or reliable than the LEXUS V8.
Short term cost would be the ONLY reason you would use anything else.
MATT.
P.S. gee do I sound like a 1UZ fan
P.P.S yes we do a kit give me a call (03)9720-3177

Clevo into an XF requires extra work cutting the firewall etc. anyway - definately not worth the effort. Then again, the Toyota V8 is a tight fit as well, and probably needs the same mods, which are quite common in falcon circles. Remove the XF heater box etc., cut that piece out of the firewall, weld in similiar piece from XD/XE and use the earlier heater box. Anyway, best I shut up about Falcons before somebody round here spears me
If you're keen, do it. The rest of the car will still be a pile of scrap, but at least the engine will be alright

xfs were designed for clevos shinny....you sure you're not confused with later/ earlier motors where windsors were fitted?

Don't think so. Then again, one should never argue with a true Ford nut
(I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure XF's have got the heater hoses coming out bang in the middle of one of the heads on a Clevo, but the Windsor is slightly narrower and can pretty much be jammed in there??)

well my windsor into ma61 was a piss easy conversion, only thing we modded was xmember and sump... heater hose on windsors comes out of timing covers..clevos i dunno where they are...
windsor is a better motor anyway...better revving, more performance orientated...and smaller!

What I meant is where the heater hoses come out in the car, not on the engine.
The Clevo vs. Windsor argument is always a good one for meatheads after a few bourbons

Easy on the lock thread, I wasn't after an argument. I was just after some advice. But looks like the man who was going to give me the advice already has. Just gotta find out how much it costs now.

Consider yourself speared!!!
I've skimed the whole thread and will simply add:
XF's never came with any form of V8, and as such have a slightly different firewall with relocated heater pipes, compared to the older XD and XE Falcons. As a result when fitting a Cleveland V8 into an XF you need to pay attention to those heater pipes, they will be very close to the LH rocker cover - ut with a bit of gentle manipulation, you can install the motor, move the pipes slightly and have everything happy - been there done that. I'd say the Windsor would be an even easier install, however their rarity and cost these days is enough to make most people stay with a Cleveland. You don't need to cut the firewall, you just need to pay attention!
Contact "cosmorotor" on these forums - he has a friend with a twin turbo Lexus V8 into XF, so should be able to give you a few pointers on install.

Stradlater - theres a number of XD and XE utes in the trading post atm with v8's already in them for under 7 grand ..
theres a BEAUTIFUL XD one i saw with a 351 in it - and XF front conversion too - black - simmons f45's - looks super tough ..
Im thinking of doing exactly the same as you atm - as back up for the ever in the workshop Gt4
either getting a falcon ute for daily hacking about - V8 preferred - or buying a sprinter or a GE swapped Ma61 to punt about in ..
any three of these examples should be able to be picked up well within my 6 - 7k budget
