Well my car is nearly back on the with 1JZ and 5 speed. I was filling the gearbox oil when a friend droped in and he stated that some Japanese gearbox's use engine oil rather than gearbox oil. Can you please confirm which oil type I should put in my 5 speed W58.
Thanks, Kevin
P.S. I think I know the answer, just nead to confirm it.

i know diff and gearbox oil is the same... not always, but usually
as for engine oil in a gearbox, i cant imagine thats very good for it...
its a gearbox, use gearbox oil.

Honda's often use motor oil in their gearboxes, my mates ED6 civic does.
Seems to work ok... but he seems to change it more often than most people do!

All gearbox and diff oils, have an Extreme Pressure additive, this ensures that the oil is not wiped/squeezed from the gears.
75/80 is the correct weight oil for the W series boxes.
The use of engine oils in Honda's, is what necessitates the frequent changes.
cheers Chuck.
