Thanks for the info guys...

My 1G has decided to pack it in and I'm weighing up some different engines. Would love to go the 3sgteu but I unfortunately need the car in a shorter time frame than this would allow.

The quickest fix would be by far to replace the 1G with another, but a 1J would be even better Rolling Eyes

If you can somehow get in contact with him, James from Kings Park Motors (KPM) here in adelaide put a 1jzgte into his old ra28 (its now sold i hear) was a very tuff car, over 200rwkw

My advice is to take the money you would spend on the 1J conversion and spend it on the 1G. (Or a 1UZ)

I am yet to see a 1J early celica that I thought was a good conversion, they just don't want to fit in there properly. Yes you can make them but not without kicking and screaming.

how would u go about all the engineering n all that stuff in a ra2x?
it wouldnt b legal would it coz its bigger than the original engine size?

It's a legal conversion in Queensland... It's right on the limit though.

I've decided to replace my dead 1G with another one anyway. Found a half cut after much searching for 2k. Should do the trick nicely and this time round I gt all the goodies from it as we could only buy an engine and box last time Sad
