Silly question: T50 gearbox Sun, 01 May 2005 12:08 Go to next message
Sorry, just wanna ask a silly question. Cant find in the old posts. I am going to buy a AE86 that specified it has a T50 gearbox. So,

(1) What is T50 gearbox?

(2) It is from a TA22 or JDM AE86?

(3) What are the difference with the stock 4AC gearbox?

Thanks much

No offence but you need to learn how to search better; but to answer your question, the T50 came in both TA22 Celicas, Sprinters and t18's. Basically there are three types:

# TA22/TA23 type - small bearings, 20 spline output shaft, short extension housing.
# TE72/TE71 type - small bearings, 20 splint output, long extension housing
# AE86/AE71 type - bigger bearings, 22 splint output, long extension housing.

you will also find that the TE71/AE71/AE86/TE72 shifter position is about 2" further back than the TA22 position.

I do however have a T50 that doesn't fit any of these categories (if anyone can identify it I'll be mighty impressed.

Cheers
Az
