1UZ soarer conversion Tue, 03 May 2005 12:23 Go to next message
Hi guys,

How much would it cost to convert a 1uz auto to a manual in a soarer? I am guessing the supra gear box will fit on?

If we are talking UZZ30 soarer, don't use the W58 box.

Get an R154 from a JZZ30 Soarer as it has the right shifter position.
Get a custom flywheel, clutch and bellhousing from either CastlemaineRodShop or Dellow Automotive.

Pedals from an JZZ30 soarer.

Budget 3 grand.

Is that DIY? What is the availability of these parts?

R154 - $1200 - $2000
Dellow or CRS "kit" - roughly $1000
tailshaft - $200ish.
pedal box, clutch master cylinder and hydraulic lines - $200ish

You'll note labour isn't included so that would be a DIY price.

i woul dmaybe add 400 to that for a decent clutch

i know some of the dellows clutches i would not even fit behind a 4ag

so double check what sort of clutch u get might be worth paying bit more for something u wont need to change in 2 months

Totally agree. I was just doing the sums for the incredulous one to show him how easy it was to get to 3K.

GT's prices are pretty right.
Add another 500-1k for a drive in, drive out conversion.

Merudo, GZ20 conversion is much much cheaper, and everything can be had cheap.
Bellhousing- $50
Gearbox - $250-$500
Clutch - $400
Flywheel - $100
Pedals/Tailshaft/Lines- few hundred from a Supra or Soarer (NOT 7GMTE equiped)

So budget $1200-$1500 (GZ20)

3000 - 4000 would suffice for a drive in drive out?

And I am guessing that they would charge premium for it. I have heard that R154 Manual box can be sourced from about $1-1.5k from most Jap Importers.

I know how to work on 'older cars' and have an uncle who can work on 80's corolla's, camry's etc. But I think that we may struggle to DIY with such an advanced car. Crying or Very Sad

JZZ30 R154's typically fetch more $$ than JZA70/MZ70 R154's, because they are rarer.
But you will need the shifter that comes with a JZZ30 R154.
