when should my engine stop reving?? Fri, 06 May 2005 05:16 Go to next message
i was playing with my enigne and ecu this morning and thought i might try running the factory settings that came in my ecu to see if it runs any better or worse as my car is chewing fuel.

so i started righting down the settings i had in my ecu so if it turned out bad i could ptu it all bak.

i remapped the ecu first bar was .13 last bar was 4.10 with a nice gentle angle. it wouldnt run, i started remapping backwards down the scale and after i had put the last 3 bars to 10.30,10.30 and 10.11(at this point the rest of the map was still between .13 and 3.Cool i got it to start but it would only run with my foot close to the floor and really lumpily(like a bridgeport rotor sounds) and i was watching the enigne data screen on my lap top and it was revving between 6k-12k.

now my question is - is it possible that my enginge did rev that fast or was the computer getting bad sigals??

thanx

You would have certainly known if it went to 12,000rpm Shocked

1. Repeat what you did
2. Film it and post it for us to watch Laughing

i second that, blindly playing with ur ECU settings isnt going to lead to much good, atleast use a narrowband 02 sensor with a crappy guage to make sure its not leaning out bad

Pff sif any problems could happen, engines are tuff, made from steel and alloy and nuts and bolts. Keep playing, you will probably learn a valuable lesson Evil or Very Mad

enigne is a 2tgeu.

i think i might stop playing with it, but i am going to buy a tacho so i can see wat my enigne is revving to neway.

if i could find sumone capable to tuneing it i would happily pay to get it done. but no one i have found can do it except redcliffe dyno and it will cost me more in fuel to get there then wat it will cost to get it tuned.

does neone know of sumone in or near ipswich that can tune haltechs (my ecu is a f7b, so u need win98 and a serial port)

laterdays

first of all i don't condone what i am about to offer and take no responsibility but:
i am using a haltech f7c on an 18rgeu
compression is 150psi in the cylinders +/- 3psi
redline according to the tacho in the car is about 6000 rpm (but it does go higher.)
now knowing that a 2t and an 18r have rather large differences in compression chamber volumes, i am still nevertheless happy for you to borrow mine if you feel like it, that you can play with.
it shouldn't blow your engine i wouldn't think as it would require more fuel to spark the g engine rather than the t engine, so if you tried it on yours it would probably run rich still.
but if you still want to try it let me know.

A 2T-GEU @ 12,000RPM? Rolling Eyes I reckon you could get to 8 or 9 maybe...More realistically I think you were probably doing 6500-7500 that's about it for a 2T.

the engine in one of the current jags was tested to 13000rpm and it ran there constantly for a couple of hours with no issue, read it a while back in motor, was in prelimanary testing for an upcoming model, i don't know whether i believe it or not but thats pretty good if it did, but yeah i'd say your computer is wack.
