I use penrite HPR30 in mine, seems to be fine, but I would also be interested in what other oils would be reccomended for this engine.

What are peoples opinions in using synthetic oil in this engine, I was told not to worry as the 3TGTE is an older motor and synthetics wouldnt have been around when the 3TGTE was developed.

Could I consider using sythetics with an upgraded turbo / intercooler on the 3TGTE or should I just stick to what I am using.

i use pennzoil gt perfomance synthetic 10-40. i was told only to use a synthetic on a motor if it had been completly rebuilt. and not to use a 5 wieght oil on old design engines as it results in low oil pressure.

Synthetic oils are fine in older engines, but don't put it straight into your freshly rebuilt engine or they wont allow the components to bed in properly. Only put it in after the engine is run in.

On saying that though, plenty of engines have done plenty of miles on mineral based oil, just don't run your $6 Kmart blend in it Laughing , the heat from the turbo will break it down in no time

I use penrite HPR15 (30 is fine too) or BP corse plus.

30w monograde for the run-in process.

The 3T won't have a problem if you chuck in 5W/50 or 5W/60 in it.
Its only if you chuck 5W/30 or lower that you'll have problems with oil pressure.

The 3T I had used to run 15W/50 Semi Synth all the time.

PS your k-mart $6 blend will just be a rebranded entry level mineral oils from one of the big oil companies (e.g. Castrol, Ampol, Shell etc.)
Just don't buy anything that says "recycled" or similar.
