Supercharged 4A-C!!!!

Hey all,
thinking of throwing a 4a-GZE supercharger on my 4A-C powered AE82 sedan. I know this will seem stupid as its a 4A-C, but im doing this just to learn a thing or two, as i will soon upgrade to a 4a-GE anyways. Just some questions for the guru's out there...
Q1.) Becoz my engine is a high compression motor, will the stock boost (8PSI im lead to believe) be too much for my engine?
Q2.) Once the Charger is bolted to the block and a pulley is run, if i run the piping from the charger to the intercooler, and then to the top of the Carby, will i need something such as a BOV to release the pressure once i back off, or will the pressure not be a problem as its belt driven anyway?
Q3.) Once the charger is setup, would it be possible to just run a uni filter to the charger using some piping with the filter fitted in the front bar, or will the charger require other bits?
Q4.) With the piping coming from the cooler to the BOV, and then to the carby, if this system is all sealed, will i make much gains in regards to power?

dont know how much the stock carby is going to like being used in a
blow-through application(supercharger-carby-engine), as opposed to a suck-through setup(carby-supercharger-engine).

There is a post about someone doing this to there 4ac in a ae70 or similar in the General Car Talk section (i think), with a link to carsales.com with a few pictures. That might give you a few ideas.

i really would suggest a suck through setup..running 8psi providing you get the pully dimensions right..shouldn't be a problem if the motor is in alright nick..i think you will be suprised at the torque increase! becuase your compressing air and fuel in the supercharger, it will actually work as in intercooler effect, the fuel will cool the air a bit, but you won;t be able to run a IC if you have a suck through..if your doing a suck through..i might be inclined to suggest a carby off a 1.8 or a 2.0 litre (eg 18R)..just so it gives it a bit more fuel, chuck a new set of points in the dizzy, cos it will proberbly want to rev past 6 with a bit of boost in her lungs! good luck with it..i might try it for a bit of fun myself..i think it would be best if you swaped all your pullys over to the GE/ZE ones.. (ribbed) the GE crank pully will only give you 5-6psi max..the ze one (bigger) will give any where up to 9psi..i would keep the S/C on a switch of something similar..not permanently on..it will burn it out real good

if i was u i would not bother the cost of setting it all up u could do what i did ,took my old 4a-c out of my ae82 and bolted the 4agze strait in the half cut was $2500 and it was worth it,it dose keep up with a vn 5lt

If i have to spend more than $100 i aint doin it. 
I have a su carb and a s/c lined up for nothing so far, all i need now is pipeing, maybe an electric fuel pump and prolly a few 4age pulleys

You mentioned your going to go for a 4A-GE eventually anyone. Personally, I wouln't waste my time with supercharging the 4A-C, I just go for a 4A-GZE, especially if your going to all the hassle of doing an engine conversion.

Hey again,
Thanks for all your replies. I am currently gathering the much needed information to pull this conversion off. I've decided to build up a new 4A-C (remember, this is all just for learning!!) and plonk it all in when it all seems good!  with a Suck thru setup. I have sourced a Carby off an old RA60 Celica 4 $50 (sounds okay to me) which i am going to get rebuilt. I am also trying to find a donor engine in which i can start this project. Anyone got a 4A-C from an AE82 they wanna sell me?  will be getting the head ported and polished aswell... will i need to run a BOV or i/c with this setup as its suck thru? if i do will it spit fuel and air in the engine bay? any other advice would be greatly appreciated!!

with a suck-through system the question is not do you "need" an intercooler - but would you really want one. think about fuel going through it (the fuel being fed by the carby into the supercharger)... if this now atomised (misty) fuel goes thru said intercooler then the mixture will at least partially condense. you now have fuel in your intercooler. if the car now backfires your intercooler will turn into a small explosive device  - rather amusing in a controlled experiment but not the best thing to have happen!!!
now - blow-off valve. used primarily as a noise-maker and said to prevent air pumps (turbo's/supercharge...maybe) from coming off boost during gear changes and letting off the throttle by venting the boost that is restricted (usually by the throttle butterfly in an efi system). since the way you are setting up your system is not gonna be like this then a bov would be seemingly a waste of money (not to mention that similarly to your intercooler it would vent atomised petrol into H O T engine bay possibly causing spot fires to break out...
probably not what you really want hey?
my advice would be to go through with the suck-through set up using the carb -> supercharger -> pipework/manifold as my mechanic is doing on a ke30 'rolla!!!
if you do that and run low boost then as long as you have enough fuel getting in (ie make sure the person rebuilding your carby knows what its intended application is so that they can at least approximate a decent jet size as you won't want it running lean.

I know u said this was a budget build. And you were just going to have your carby re-built and re-jetted.
But if you could find one for a cheap price, can I suggest you use a Holley 450 double pumper. It would do the job.

Thanks for all your help guys. Well, the disk brake conversion is being done this weekend, sourced the new setup of a twin cam seca for $200 which sounds reasonable once that is fitted with the dba slotted rotors and new pads, i will be straight into building the new engine. ive gotten quotes for a port and polish job, with a reground cam aswell for $550 from a place at Windsor. Does anyone know of any carburettor or EFI specialist which will help with the tuning and or jetting of the new carby? i have contacted 2 places, both of which want nothing to do with the project as the oldies think too much trouble is involved. JesseT18 thanks for the offer. You hav a PM, CausingMayhem, thanks for your help aswell! What do you suggest i do with the outlet of the SC where i can mount a BOV? should i block all of the outlets except inlet/outlet, and only run the 12V? Im going to take some photo's of the unit, and ask for information on some bits and pieces. seeing as though i have the stock IC i will be selling this for $40 if anyone wants it.
