That Little Yellow Truck. Sat, 07 May 2005 23:01 Go to next message
Ok, I thought it was about time to put up some details.
Just remember it was bought as a work truck to do delivery's with.
Sorry I don't have any real early pic's of it when I bought it.
She had a non waterproof ply tray that I would not let the grandkids play on because they might fall through it.
and a 1600cc motor that sucked more oil and water then fuel.
In the first two I had already replaced the tray with steel checker plate and changed the wheels to 8x15 globes.
http://img102.echo.cx/img102/6618/truckfrontearly0ln.jpg
http://img102.echo.cx/img102/2373/trucksideearly0my.jpg
Then the 1600 died, so I though 'give her a new heart'.
My young bloke had a 351ci Clevo with a big cam & extractors sitting in his garage that was coupled up to a C4 box out of his GT.
No, to wide for my chassis rails so I bought a V6 from a VP commodore.
This is the V6 being fitted.
http://img102.echo.cx/img102/3526/truckbuild5pg.jpg
More to come.

wow, that will certainly be faster than the 1600cc engine that was in there before it!

best of luck with the conversion! Look forward to hearing how it all goes.

Cheers

I only did two runs on the night.

1st - 16.979 = 124.52 kph
2nd - 18.074 = 125.35 kph

I know it's been said before but, Traction was the biggest problem by the time I had grip I had no time left.

Great to see someone going out of the ordinary and also using it for business. I saw your Hi-ace at Al Palmers all toyota day and loved it great to hear more about the build up process, looks top and good to see something that actually has a use as well as going fast.

Very cool truck. Cool

Saw it out at eastern creek and might I say that this thing does some pretty impressive burnouts. I will have to see if I can compress the video I have of it and email it to you.

Love it...

I still haven't made it to a cruise to see it! Sad But that's a classy piece of machiney right there. Is the VP gearbox behind the engine or the original Toyota item?

No it's got the TH700 4sp Auto behind it.
It would have been to hard to run linkages for a manual box since the shifter is mounted on top of my engine cover, and operates via a cable so I can still open the cover.

And thanks for the comments Guys.

Now that's a truck. Cool Great job Ray. Never heard it start up until Friday night, I must it was quite unexpected to hear such a quiet noise come from it.

Top stuff, but you stole my idea for the ulrtaviolet light in the cabin! Smile Not to worry, I'll have a few more than that. Looks great though. Nod

The throttle body is from the 5lt V8.
It bolt's striate on.they are a bit hard to find and from the wreckers you could pay around $200.00
Mine came from a mate's blown motor.

Nice rig you got there dude, very cool and unique. Smile

Can I ask though, have you had it over a weighbridge, or do you know roughly how much it weighs off the top of your head?

Cheers mate. Smile

Yes it had to go over the weighbridge to get the engineers report for rego.
I can't remember off the top of my head what it weighs by it comes in about 200kgs lighter then the VP Commodore Sedan.

Mate they love it. I pick the 2 youngest ones (7 & 9)up from school in the afternoons. The youngest (Harley 7) sits in the middle and as soon as I start it he reaches up & turns on the blower.I think they both call out to nearly every kid we go past just to make sure they get seen in it.
When it gets cleaned up for a show or a run they both want to help with the cleaning, but neither will help their dad or mum clean their cars.Funny Hayley (9) got real cranky at the SCS show when they picked the black ute for top truck.
