I can help you guys with the freight side of it. Your looking at about $2K from NZ depot to Sydney depot.

Unless you've lived in NZ and owned it for over 12mths its not worth yout while.

bummer..
I wonder who will be the first to find out.

I am just soo pissed cause our friends over in NZ can any kick ass car they want.
Even tuned up, race versions of normal street cars from Japan.
Dam it...

I wonder if you can ship the car in parts or something..
As in semi kit form? or something doggy to say you got the car for parts and then register it in Australia.

Is the issue only in registering it here? If you weren't going to, ie track only car, do you have to go through the same processes? Or can you just pick one, front the coin and ship it over?

problem is you can never register them for the road.

Its the same deal for importing from Japan.
You'll need a CAMS license to purchase a car for race/rally use only.
As a private import you need to supply evidence that you have owned and driven the vehicle overseas for at least 12 months (rego, service records etc.)
Another option is to buy a good wreck and tranfer all the good bits to the equivelent local version.
Some examples.
