LPG on 4AGE

Has anyone had any experiance with lpg on a 4age as i am contemplating doing this (as the 4age is in a zook 4x4). I was thinking it would be better as i wouldnt have any problem with fuel starvation going up steep hills or on steep side angles. Would i have to modify the motor in any way or will it handle it ok? Are there any cams that are designed for gas useage (as i will be running straight gas and no petrol)? Any help would be greatful.
Regards flyinwall.

if your only doing it to prevent fuel starvation, get a surge tank. will cost you $200 max all up.

yeah second that. A surge tank will do the job and save you heaps!
I have seen some rollas on gas and they are cheap as shit to run, but Toyota never recommended their older engins be put on gas.

I remember reading it somewhere ages ago, they used to advise against putting gas on the camrys and land cruisers. That is just what I heard or read or something. The newer cars, like the avalon are getting great results from gas.

man don't knock the avalon, they are great heavy cumbersome lumps to drive !! and have looks that would kill (not)
If I want to drive a tank I would go to the army

what about cams? Are there any cams for straight lpg to maximise the power for use with lpg? Are there any benifits with lpg for when i put a supercharger on this motor? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what intake manifold i should use (rwd preferably). Or how much a custom manifold would cost? I am thinking of using 2 lpg tanks on the tray of my zook! Just so you know what i am doing this to this is my zook at the moment
yes i know its only sitting there with the aid of the trusty old telecom rope

haha we call it parramatta rope in sydney.
i think for all the hassle your better off sticking with fuel. but aparently gas has a high octane rating so thats a plus i spose.

lpg is great for forced induction due to its higher ron rating so you can wind more timming into the thing

you can convert any petrol engine to run on lpg. this copypasted from my faq:
Quote: | There have been a few Corollas around running on LPG. I'm told this stuff is really good for your motor both in the smooth running and the way it doesn't pollute your oil. There are two basic designs of LPG systems, you want to get the one with what's called an Air Gas Valve Mixer, companies such as Impco and Gas Research make parts like this for performance systems. LPG also has an (alleged) RON of 110, though this seems to have dropped in recent years. If you can afford the system (tank, lines, converter, mixer, piping) then go for it!

considering i have no fuel system ie. fuel lines or fuel tank (the ones in the pic are just sitting there)it will take the same amount to fit lines for lpg as it would for petrol (unless i go duel fuel which is an option). Either way i am just going to take the car to the efi/lpg fitters workshop and say "here fit this" so i will have it done properly in the first place.

Pretty well much 1 thing to think of is - availibility.
If you spend your time running around the city sure run it on gas. But if your planning on driving between towns and spending time behind the black stump then its either no or dual fuel. Think of it like this, your running low on gas and the servo in the town with only 1 pub sells only petrol your phucked

thanks for the input guys i have decided to go with duel fuel (i have plenty of room for the tanks) as this will get me out of most problems lpg for ecconomy and petrol for power (and surge tank for the starvation probs) so thanks again guys
