MR2 air box and wiring question Tue, 10 May 2005 05:56 Go to next message
Hi, Just purchased an MR2 and I noticed a whistling sound coming from the engine bay. I Located it to the air box where it seems there is a hole at the top of it allowing unfiltlered air to be sucked in. Any idea what hose is meant to go into that hole? if any?
Also there seems to be a lot of empty 'air storage units' as i call them connected just after the air filter, black boxes with nothing in them, just wondering whether they actually serve a purpouse...

Also there any idea where this plug plugs into?

I can't really make out the hole from that picture, but this link http://gtfour.supras.org.nz/diagrams.htm might help you track down that connector.

cant really see the hole there but that could be the dodgy monitor im using. either way it needs to be plugged.. either with a sensor that was supposed to go there or if there should be a blanking plate or similar over it. worse case if you cant find a loose sensor for it (although i cant think what) then id get a bit of sealant and a piece of plastic and close it up.

the empy boxes as you describe them are bascially baffles to reduce induction noise.
this is why people get defected for pod style filters. they are not illegal persay its the fact they they dont have any baddling to reduce induction noise from the engine.. although im sure most people that get busted and a good chance most police busting are somewhat unaware of that fact.

Sorry about the pic. the hole is actually on the side and can't be seen from the pic, its just in that location.

Woah the 3sge sure has a lot of those plugs. I'll see if I can loacate the unpluged connector from those diagrams and see whats it for.

cheers for your everyone.

EDIT: Found what the hole is for. Apparently an air flow sensor. now to find that damn sensor...
