Safe to cut? Thu, 12 May 2005 01:18 Go to next message
Hi all,
im in the process of putting a cooler on my car and i need advice on where to cut (if i can cut at all without making my car an engineers nightmare) a hole to run the piping. i have taken some pics of the cooler and how i hope to mount it, and where i want to put the hole to run the piping. The hole is already there for the front bumper mounts, and i was wondering if i could make it slightly bigger to fit the piping as well. any advice is most appreciated in advance.

Its usually safe to cut sheet metal parts of the car, that said an engineer will usually answer questions like this for free if he thinks you will end up getting your engineers cert. through him.

You can make the original hole bigger but you will ne to reenforce it by welding some steel on the inside edge to form a lip. Kind of like whats already there.

If need be I can get you a photo of how mine is done. Mine has been already approved.
