The sun...

I took this photo this morning and it amazed the fook out of me when I uploaded it to my computer. This does not happen with any lights or anything like that, I even tried it with a 100W bulb directly infront of the camera which at that range would have the same brightness as the sun... Must be something to do with UV light or something... Any ideas?

Hi,
It looks like you've overloaded (with brightness) the CCD in your camera. The dark circle is where I think the real sun was?
You eyes do the same thing. If you look at a bright object and then shut your eyes you'll see a negative image of the object. There's a proper name for this but I can't remember it.
A 100W light bulb, no matter how close, isn't the same brightness as the sun. Although it's not wise, you could look at a 100W bulb and not destroy your eyes (though, as I said, I doubt they'd appreciate it), but you can't look at the sun (for more than a brief moment) without doing some damage to the old ocular system.
Take a pic of an arc-weld in action if you want to even get close to the brightness of the sun and see how the image looks.
Anyway, that's my educated opinion.... so I could also be talking shit.

i dont know about the proper name, but i can tell you that this is the sun burning your retina. the section of your retina that is picking up the image of the sun gets fucked up hardcore, so you cant see from that area (that negative image thingy).
something to do with photoreceptors and all that jazz.
