Rear main seal 3sgte Sun, 22 May 2005 09:58 Go to next message
Does any one know if the rear main seal varies between gen2 and gen3 3sgte's?I bought one from repco today and it has a smaller
ID than the one I took out of my gen 3 and was a very tight fit over the crank. Not sure if it will give problems or not.
For piece of mind can anyone give me the genuine Toyota part number please.
Also for future reference, what year model Celica started using the gen3 3sgte?

gen 2 and gen 3 seals are the same ,but make sure is a 3sgte seal and not a 3sge n/a seal as they are different in their design and it will fail after about 2to 3000 k,s .
Either purchase a genuine seal from toyota or take the old seal to a bearing and seal company and they will match it up to the correct one .
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Also, the rear seals between some motors differ by about 1mm. As there were several different sizes of cranks used across the range. Makesure you get one that suits your crank as well.
