CLG's 1977 RA28 Celica with 3TGTE Mon, 06 December 2004 15:10 Go to next message
A couple of quick snap shots of the car that started my Toyota odyssey. bought in 1992, and sold earlier this year in parts to several people, the body going to a happy fellow over east!

really neat CLG

i like the lack of chromey bits, like the 'vents' [soz, dont know what theyre called] behind the windows being white also... and the back.

scuse me ignorance, but those door handles? how do you go about that?! surely beats the big chrome lumps ive got!

The door handles are actually from a Holden LX/LH Torana, which are alst the same as the Kingswood series of the same vintage. They were installed when the car was rebuilt in 1993ish, and work perfectly. The swap from memory was very straight forward - remove the old handles, cut out the backing and housing for the new handles and weld in, weld up the excess hole left from the old handles, and connect to the rods. The actuation is most certainly better than the original handles as I'm sure M.W.P. can confirm?!

Full Nolathane bushings
New ball joints throughout

82 GT Celica steering wheel
New dash pad

Actaully ive just finished rebuilding the drivers door:
Keyhole gone.
Dent in bottom of door fixed.
New window belts.
New (well good cond, 2nd hand) window regulator.
Central locking motor.
Vynil dyed inside trim.
Etc.

Yes, the handle actuation is very nice, esp now its been tweaked a bit Smile

I had to dig this thread up for a friend to look at, and can't remember if I've answered the question about the fluted fenders or not???

The height at which those flutes were installed was the lowest I could go easily, before the curve of the fender made the job difficult. The flutes as you can clearly see were taken from a bonnet - I went to buy parts from a car that had lined a power pole right up the centreline, and was given the bonnet for free. I cut the flutes out, and had them welded into the fenders while it was in the panel shop around ten years ago.

Looks nice.

How much power does this have @ what boost? Any internal work?

Are you planning on putting on an intercooler at all?

Cheers,
Mitch.

I never did a real power run with it, however it did pull 135RWHP on 7.3psi previously. As for future plans, none - I sold it a while ago!

Just to confirm, the doors on the RA28 are the the same as the TA22 (apart from the side intrusion bars). Does this mean The door handle conversion should be the same?

Cheers, Hodgie.

Will be nice when its all done, what sort of power are you hoping to achieve as an end result? Can I ask why you ditched the 3TGTE in favour for the 1UZ-FE when the 3TGTE was already in there?

Not really sure about power.
I should be able to get 250rwhp without too much trouble.

When i bought the car off CLG, it didnt come with the 3TGTE.
He sold that off separately.
