Calling on all your collective knowledge

Hi,
Surely within the collective knowledge of this forum someone.. anybody.. has info in where to get a P51 gearbox repaired or where to get parts?
I need your help to keep a classic GT Celica in original condition and driveable.
I've scanned all the forums. I've scoured the internet. I've spoken to Toyota. I've spoken to god. I've used a bowl of blood and a chickens's foot. I even tried the pendulum and Tarot, but the answers aren't coming.
I've spoken to numerous gearbox places, including our sponsors, and the reply is "forget it" or "what's a P51".
I can whack in a W50 - but that ain't the same as having the original box fixed or replaced with the same type.
So please, help Uncle River out. Any ideas..... anyone?

Hi,
Thanks for the info 4DaDrift. The P51 was a JDM item. I've tried tog et parts from them via my local Toyota Dealer (who is very good and has been able to source some rare GT parts already) but no luck on P51 bits.
I've tried Toyota Australia a few times but they don't ring or email me back - I guess they're only interested in making money and selling cars, as opposed to keeping their heritage and historical cars in running order.
I'm going to try the Jap Consulate and see if I get any luck there. Also, I'll try Al Palmer.
I know the ratios, but thanks anyway.
RollaBoy, I wouldn't like to restore a GT2000 also. Parts are very very hard to get and very expensive, let alone the megabucks needed to buy a car in the first place. Mind you, it would be a great car to own and fun to take out on the odd cruise and motor show.

I know this would probably be a last resort, but have you tried calling or e-mailing Toysport in the States? They aren't particularly cheap, and they're on the other side of the world, but they always seem to be able to get hold of the really weird stuff.

Hi,
Thanks. I just emailed them. I spoke to Al Palmer and he mentioned to go to the importers. SO. I did a search for them in Oz and am emailing them.
Also, I emailed the Singapore Celica guys for info.
Good stuff, keep the ideas coming and I'll email, ring and hassle them to see if I can get the box/parts.

where is the main market your model was released ?

Very good question
As far as I know, the 70's Celica GTs (not the US psuedo version)
were sold in:
Japan
UK
France (not 100% sure though)
Gernany(not 100% sure though)
any other countries??
Apart from ratios and the Porsche syncros how is the P51 different to a W50? Is is stronger etc?

Hmmm, good point. I may just have to swallow my pride and talk to those pansies if necessary. Oh the irony!
I'll try the UK. I know an RA25GT sold over there a few months ago for $7,000PND - apparently one of two in the country. Maybe they'll have a gearbox or two lying around..... just maybe

Hi,
Wilbo, you're right - it was a Porsche patented box or something along those lines. It's a long shot but worthy of my attention. I'll see what I can dig up from Porsche clubs/specialists. Good idea.
Thanks fellas - keep 'em coming.

Hi,
The Porsche Club of Australia is looking into it also for me. How nice of those guys to help.
Never thought I'd see the day where you need to go to Porsche to get parts and ideas to fix your Celica!

What about finding someone locally who speaks Japanese and getting them to email/contact a Celica club in Japan.
It it sad but true but it appears that 99% of all Toyota GT's of all types were sold in their home market, so thats where the vast majority of parts will be laying around. This is if any relevant parts are still around.
I despise all recent Toyotas because they are appliances, so I wish you all the luck in the world in getting what you need to fix up your beast - a real Toyota.
Also what about that Moloney guy in Melbourne? I hear he is about to retire or already has. If it is not too late....
